NTL East Wins in Senior Volleyball Match
The East, including two Wyalusing Valley seniors, defeated the West, 3-0, in the annual Towanda-Wysox Kiwanis Senior Volleyball Match on Nov. 15.
Laci Holdren and Erin Dean-Swank represented the Lady Rams in the tilt at Towanda High School.
The East squad, which also included girls from Towanda, Canton, Athens and Sayre, rallied from a 23-16 deficit to win a marathon first game, 30-28.
Eight unanswered points gave the East a 24-23 lead. The score see-sawed until the East prevailed with two straight points after the West had tied the game at 28-all. Each team squandered two game points before the East pulled out the win.
In the second game, the East pulled out to a 10-3 lead en route to a 25-10 win.
The East sealed the win with a 25-18 win in the third game. Leading 12-8, the East took complete control with six unanswered points.
“It was exciting,” said Dean-Swank afterward. “It was fun to play with new people.”
Dean-Swank played most of the first game and part of the second despite being a little weak from donating blood earlier in the day.
She finished with two digs, one kill and a point.
Holdren, who played most of the final two games, had five digs and two points, and she agreed with her teammate.
“It was fun to play with different people from our league and different strategies,” she said.
Despite limited practice time together, Holdren was impressed with the way the team worked as one.
“We pulled it together,” she said. “It seemed kind of natural.”
Towanda’s Tori Welliver had 24 kills, six blocks, eight digs and five points.
Her Lady Knight teammate Taylor Williams added 17 digs, nine points and a kill. Taylor Coolbaugh added 11 digs, five points and a kill.
