Pairings for Northeast Region Wrestling Announced
Cobb, who finished second in the 171-pound bracket in the District Four tournament last weekend, is the third seed entering Friday's opening round. Cobb (32-2) will face Lackawanna Trail's Marvess Rosiak (33-10) in the quarterfinals.
Hart and Clark, who were fifth in the District Four tournament at 130 and 189 pounds, respectively, are the eighth seeds in their brackets.
Clark (30-8) will meet Muncy's Ryan Hembury (36-3) in the quarterfinals.
Hart (28-8) faces Benton's Coltin Fought (33-4) in his opener.
The top three place winners from each weight class advance to the PIAA tournament at Hershey's Giant Center, which begins on Thursday, March 10.
Several other wrestlers from schools neighboring Wyalusing are still in contention for a state tournament berth.
Towanda's Cody Wheeler, wrestling at 125 pounds, is the area's lone top seed. Wheeler, who won the District Four tournament, will take a 42-1 record into his quarterfinal bout with Mount Carmel's Nick Dusendschine (33-9).
Also in Wheeler's half of the eight-man bracket is Northeast Bradford's Zack Green. Green (38-3) is the fifth seed and will face Dallas's Stephen Mingey (26-21).
Towanda's Kyle Blascak (34-14), the eighth seed at 103 pounds, will meet top-seeded Evan Decker (26-3) from Western Wayne in his opener.
Also at 103 pounds, Sullivan County's Shawn Nitcznski (31-1), the fourth seed, meets G.A.R.'s A.J. Luton (21-9) in the quarterfinals.
Towanda's Caleb Willey (38-5) is the third seed at 135 pounds. He will meet Lackawanna Trail's Chris Dixon (30-1) in the quarterfinals.
Zack Ripic, also from Towanda, is the third seed at 145 pounds. Ripic (36-6) faces Hanover Area's Kurt Pericci (30-9) in his first match.
At 160 pounds, Northeast Bradford's Jake Balchikonis (28-5) is the sixth seed. He will face Hanover Area's Garrett Wynn (25-13) in the quarterfinals.
In the same side of the 171-pound bracket with Cobb is Towanda's Garrett VanDeMark. VanDeMark (39-6) is the seventh seed. He will meet Lake-Lehman's Nick Shelley (7-0) in the quarterfinals.
At 285, Towanda's Aaron Schultz (38-5), the third seed, will meet Western Wayne's Joseph Ingaglio (25-10) Friday.
Action at Williamsport begins Friday with the quarterfinals at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. with championship semifinals and consolation quarterfinals. The consolation semifinals will follow immediately upon the completion of the consolation quarterfinals.
After a break, the Parade of Champions will be held at 4:30 p.m., followed by the championship and consolation finals contested simultaneously on two mats.
