Phillips Leads Elk Lake Swimmers into District Meet

Elk Lake's Adam Phillips enters this weekend's District Two, Class AA swimming championships as the top-seeded competitor in two events.

Phillips had the fastest seeding times in the 200 IM (2:03.60) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.66).

The Elk Lake boys are also among the top seeds in all three relays. They are the fourth seed in the 200 free relay (1:38.85), fifth in the 400 free relay (3:44.37) and sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:56.05).

In the girls' Class AA seedings, Elk Lake doesn't have any top seeds, but it has a number of swimmers with high seeds.

Abby Zdancewicz is the second seed in the 500 free (5:41.03) and the fourth seed in the 200 free (2:05.55).

In the 50 free, Chelsea Karabin is the second seed (25.22) and Rina Nikolaidis is the seventh seed (26.94).

Karabin is also the second seed in the 100 free (56.47), behind only Tunkhannock's Stephanie Dymond (56.07).

All three Elk Lake relay teams are seeded. They are third in the 200 free relay (1:47.22), fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:04.84) and 400 free relay (3:58.03).

Stephanie Halloran joins Dymond, who was also seeded third in the 50 free (25.40) as a seeded individual for Tunkhannock in the Class AA girls' meet. Halloran is seeded second in the 200 free (2:04.83) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.08).

Tunkhannock is seeded third in both the 200 medley relay (2:01.80) and 400 free relay (3:58.03).

In the boys' Class AA meet, Tunkhannock has two swimmers with top seeds in three events, including David Novak in the 200 free (1:51.87) and the 500 free (5:02.03) and Ben Spencer in the 200 IM (2:03.85). Spencer is also the second seed in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.92).

Matt Kupchunas is second in the 100 butterfly (55.55) and 100 backstroke (58.64).

Joe Moffitt is the fourth seed in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.14).

Ryan Fowler is seeded seventh in the 50 free (23.99) and eighth in the 100 free (53.07).

The three relay teams are seeded led by the 200 free relay (1:33.43) and 400 free relay (3:29.61), both seeded second. The 200 medley relay (1:46.01) is seeded third.

Class AA action begins Friday, March 4 at 12 p.m. at the Wilkes-Barre CYC. The Class AAA meet opens that day at 6 p.m.

Saturday's start times are the same as Friday's.

The diving portion of the competition was held in Wilkes-Barre last weekend.

In the girls' AA event, Elk Lake's Heather Wimmer finished tenth with 210.10 points. Tunkhannock's Katie Kolodziewski was 11th with 189.85.

Elk Lake's Dylan Simmons finished seventh in the boys' Class AA competition with 292.30 points.

Tunkhannock's Luke Cruver was ninth in the Class AA boys' event with 245.70 points.
