RTL Juniors Still in Title Hunt

 

The Roosevelt Trail League (RTL) Junior baseball team stayed in contention for a District 15 Little League title despite losing in the first round of the championships bracket.

RTL’s Minor and Major squads continued play in the consolation tournaments.

 

Junior Baseball

Junior baseball lost to Athens, 14-7, in its East pool play finale. The team finished pool play with an 0-2 record, but qualified for the championship bracket.

RTL lost to Canton, 13-7, in the first round of championship play.

Dropping to the consolation bracket, RTL defeated Athens, 12-10, on July 5. It will face Southern Tioga on July 7.

 

Minor Baseball

RTL completed Mid-East pool play with an 11-10 loss to NEBALL on June 30. The game had been suspended because of rain a day earlier.

The defeat left RTL with a 1-3 record in pool play, relegating the locals to the Joe Shaw Memorial Tournament for non-championship bracket Minor baseball squads.

In the tournament opener, RTL defeated Blue Ridge, 7-4,  to earn a July 6 semifinal berth against NEBALL.

 

Major Baseball

In its Mid-East pool play finale, RTL defeated Troy, 11-4, in the completion of a suspended game on June 30.

RTL completed pool play with a 2-2 record and moved into the Daniel J. Aquilio III Tournament for non-championship bracket qualifiers.

In the Aquilio tourney opener, RTL defeated Susco East, 12-9, setting up a championship semifinal game with Blue Ridge on July 7.
