Running Roundup: Jewett Wins Pink Panther 5K

Curt Jewett led a field of 54 runners and walkers at the Pink Panther 5K at Northeast Bradford High School on Saturday, March 19.

Jewett, 16 and a Northeast Bradford student, finished the race in 17:41, 39 seconds ahead of runner-up Kent Upham. Brandon Devonshire was third in 18:51.

Theresa Rennekamp, 47, Lake Ariel, was the top female finisher, crossing the line 13th, overall, in a time of 24:13, edging Allison Bonin by one second. Cheryl Henninger, who was the first Northeast Bradford female alumni, completed the top three for women with a time of 27:13, 25th, overall.

Mike Finch, who finished fifth in 20:06, was the top male alumni.

The race, which was held in 30-degree weather and a blustery wind on Northeast Bradford's cross country course, benefitted Traci's Hope, a breast cancer support group based in New York's Southern Tier.

Male age-group winners included: 10-under: Matt Voda; 11-14: Levi Upham; 15-19: Kent Upham; 20-29: Alden Curtis Park; 30-39: Joshua Sitas; 50-59: Kerry Zemek, and 60-up: David Keeler.

The female age-group winners included: 10-under: Erin Voda; 11-14: Emily Russell; 15-19: Allison Bonin; 20-29: Kristy Rockefeller; 30-39: Emily Scrivener; 40-49: Janet Horton; 50-59: Jennifer Wildenstein, and 60-up: Shirley Phillips.

Winter's End 4.5 Miler

At Lehman, on March 20, Bornfase Nyandusi Omurwa won the Wyoming Valley Striders' Winter's End 4.5-Miler with a time of 25:11, edging David McLean by one second. John Evangelista was third in 26:33.

Samantha Sneed was the top female with a time of 27:29, followed by Monica Obsitos and Deedra Porfiro.
