Softball Roundup: Jennings Singles in Tourney Opener

Wyalusing Valley graduate Brianna Jennings and her Conklin Raiders teammates won their opening game at the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Gold National Tournament in San Diego, CA, on July 25.

The Raiders defeated Sudden Impact Gold, 8-0, in Pool O play Monday.

Jennings singled and drove in a run in the victory.

Michaela Transue led the Raiders with a home run and drove in three runs.

Two Conklin pitchers, Cara Martin and Alix Taylor, combined for a two-hitter.

On Tuesday, Jennings walked in a 5-2 loss to Georgia Impact White to complete pool play.

Transue had a double and an RBI for Conklin.

Conklin faced FW Batbusters Wednesday in the first round of the championship bracket.

Senior Softball

The District 15 and Section III champions, sponsored by Bardo, Cox & Miller, Inc., of Canton, went 1-1 during West pool play in the Pennsylvania Senior Softball Championship Tournament on July 20-21, in West Grove, PA.

BCM lost to DuBois, 14-3, in their opener on July 20.

The team, which included players from Wyalusing, Northeast Bradford and Towanda schools, bounced back with an 8-2 win over Worthington.

Unfortunately for the locals, Worthington defeated DuBois, 10-2, on July 22, creating a three-way tie through pool play.

With the top two teams from each pool slated to advance to the weekend’s semifinal and championship rounds, officials went to the tiebreaker. BCM was the odd team out once the calculations had been made.

Worthington went on to claim the title, defeating Kennett Square, 15-3, in the semifinals and downing Plains, 7-4, in the title tilt.
