Lady Ram JVs Win Opener The Wyalusing Valley junior varsity softball season opened the 2011 season with a 6-5 home win over Northeast Bradford on March 31. Emily Faulkner picked up the win for the Lady Rams, holding the Lady Panthers to five hits. She fanned five batters, while allowing two walks. Brittany Smith had Wyalusing’s only extra-base hit—a double. Lisa Saxe and Ciera Holland each had two hits. Faulkner, Casey Fox and Kelly Clark each added a single. Northeast Bradford’s Bridget Haverly had a pair of singles. Abbey Cole, Courtney Emick and MaKaylah Holbert all singled. Pitchers Courtney Coleman and Chelsea Souto combined for nine strikeouts, eight hits and a walk for the Lady Panthers. Adult League Play Continues Results from the Starlite Lanes 8:30 P.M. Mixed League, held on April 3, have been released with Hillside still leading with an 80-28 record. R&N Hunsinger is second with a 68.5-39.5 record, followed by E&G (60.5-47.5), B&L (51.5-56.5) and Nichol’s (45-5-62.5). Individual results are as follows: Women’s High Single: L. Latini 181 and 166, D. Nichols 177 and N. Hunsinger 265; Women’s High Triple: L. Latini 500, N. Hunsinger 455 and D. Nichols 453; Men’s High Single: E. Mosier 232, E. Latini 213, 199 and 195, and R. Hunsinger 183, and Men’s High Triple: E. Latini 607, E. Mosier 534 and B. Mosier 457. Richmond Second at Sydney Staff Sgt. Josh Richmond, a Hillsgrove native and member of the U.S. Marksmanship Unit, finished second in Men’s Double Trap competition at the World Cup event in Sydney, Australia, on March 27. Richmond, who currently leads for the automatic berth on the U.S. Olympic team in the event, shot a 186, finishing two points behind event winner Richard Faulds of Great Britain. Elk Lake Cager Honored Elk Lake’s Mark Bush was named to the Lackawanna League Division III boys’ basketball second team by the division’s coaches. Lackawanna Trail’s Stephen Miller was named Player of the Year. Joining Miller on the first team were Blue Ridge’s Alex Cardoza, Lakeland’s Kyle Kiehart, Montrose’s Colby Major and Susquehanna’s Andrezj Tomczyk. Joining Bush on the second team were Blue Ridge’s Sawyer Dearborn, Forest City’s Joey Caruso, Montrose’s Bill Stranburg and Susquehanna’s Cole Mallory. YMCA Softball League Forming The Bradford County YMCA is currently registering teams for an adult softball league. The league will play Monday through Fridays, starting May 16 to Aug. 12. Game times and schedules will be announced once sign-ups are complete. Registration fees for teams paid by April 15 are $450 for co-ed and $550 for modified squads.
