WVHS Softball Enters Playoffs

The Wyalusing Valley softball team will open the District Four, Class A playoffs with a home game on Friday, May 27. The Lady Rams, seeded third in the eight-team tournament with a 15-3 record, will host Cowanesque Valley, 12-6, at 4:30 p.m in the quarterfinals. Other quarterfinal matches, also slated for Friday, include top-seeded Northeast Bradford (14-1) hosting East Juniata (8-7); Galeton (10-4) travels to Montgomery (13-5) and Muncy (11-8) visits Southern Columbia (18-2).

On Tuesday, May 31, the semifinals will be held at Williamsport’s Elm Park with the Northeast Bradford/East Juniata winner meeting the Galeton/Montgomery winner at 4 p.m. The Wyalusing/Cowanesque Valley winner will meet the Muncy/Southern Columbia winner at 5:30 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Thursday, June 2, at Elm Park, starting at 4 p.m. Both of the finalists will advance to the PIAA tournament, which opens June 7.


Team Wyalusing Second at Duals

Team Wyalusing wrestling club finished second at the Line Mountain Duals on Saturday, May 14. The local squad finished the tournament with a 4-1 final, losing only to Team Steel from District Three.

Wyalusing wrestlers on the team included Creighton Edsell, Josh Haley, Collin Edsell, Austin Shaffer, Justin Haley, Ryan Force, Nevin Nolte, Tyler Fenton, Mike Cobb, Anthony Clark, Dylan Otis and Clayton Force. Others on the squad included Zach Green, Ethan Calkins, Nick Steffani and Jesse Buck.


Benefit Softball Tournament Set

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bradford County will host a co-ed softball tournament at Mountaineer Park in Monroeton on June 11-12. There is a $175 entry fee per team. To register, call 570-265-3009 or 1-866-344-BIGS (2447).


Teams Sought for Golf Tourney

The Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting teams for its 15th annual golf tournament, slated for Sunday, June 26, at 9 a.m. at Tall Pines Golf Course in Friendsville. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Montrose July 4 fireworks display.

Teams should consist of a captain and three other golfers. There is a $280 entry fee per team or $70 per person, which includes cart, green fees, awards luncheon and prizes.

Stock Dog Trials Slated

The 30th annual Pennsylvania State Championship Stock Dog Trials will be held June 17-21 at Sheepy Hollow Farm in Hop Bottom, Susquehanna County. This is a qualifying trial for the United States Border Collie Handler’s Association, the Northeast Border Collie Association and 2011 national competition in Colorado in September.

On Friday, June 17, a Nursery class for dogs under three years of age will be held. Saturday and Sunday will feature Open class competition for experienced dogs and handlers. On Monday and Tuesday, Novice classes will compete.
