YMCA Slates Pre-Season Meeting

The Bradford County YMCA will host a pre-season meeting for the upcoming fifth and sixth grade basketball season at the YMCA building on College Avenue, Towanda. Any parents of interested children are encouraged to attend this meeting. The discussion will include playing dates, practice and game schedules as well as other league details.

YMCA Volleyball Play Continues

The results from the YMCA High School Volleyball League from July 19 were recently released.

Wyalusing lost to Mansfield, 25-15, 25-18. Other results included Towanda over North Penn, 25-15, 25-14; Mansfield over Northeast Bradford 1, 25-14, 25-14; Canton over Northeast Bradford 2, 25-22, 25-15, and Troy 2 over Troy 1, 25-16, 25-8.

 

WVHS Sports Physicals Slated

Sports physicals for Wyalusing Valley athletes will be held in the high school nurse’s office on Friday, Aug. 5 for students with last names starting with A through K. Students whose names begin with L through Z should report on Thursday, Aug. 11. The times for both days are 9 a.m. through 2 p.m.

All students planning to participate in a fall sport must have a physical prior to the start of practice.

Students are asked to pay their activity fee at the time of their physical. The fee is $40 for ninth through 12th graders and $25 for seventh and eighth graders. No one will be allowed to get the physical or begin practice without paying the activity fee first. Students who were in the free or reduced lunch program during the 2010-11 school year are exempt from the fee.

 

NTL Football Meeting Set

The Northern Tier League football coaches and officials’ interpretation meeting will be held at Troy High School on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.

Endless Mt. Blast Tryouts Slated

The Endless Mt. Blast, a fastpitch softball organization based in Tunkhannock, has tryouts slated for three squads in August at the Tunkhannock Area High School softball field. Experienced players are encouraged to attend. Players will need gloves, spikes and appropriate workout gear.

U-12 team tryouts, for girls with a birth year of 1999 or later, will be held on Aug. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. The U-14 tryouts, for girls with a birth year of 1997 and later, are set for Aug. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Aug. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. The U-16 tryouts for girls with a birth year of 1995 and later are slated for Aug. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Aug. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Aeppli Competes in PA Amateur

Bucky Aeppli, a Wyalusing Valley graduate and member of the Misericordia University golf team, competed in the Pennsylvania Amateur golf tournament at Lancaster Country Club on July 25-26.

Aeppli shot a six-over 76 on Monday’s opening day, tied for 62nd on the leaderboard. On the second day, he shot a 12-over 82, finishing with a 158 to miss the cut by eight strokes.
