WVHS Winter Sports Physicals Set
Winter sports physicals for Wyalusing Valley High School athletes are set for Friday, Nov. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the nurse’s office.
Any athlete that did not play a fall sport needs to pay their activity fee, which is $40 for ninth through 12th grades and $25 for junior high. Students in the free or reduced lunch program are exempt from the fee. Mrs. Cindy Goodwin has the list in the front office.
Moosic Mets Perfect in NC
The Moosic Mets travel baseball team went 4-0 last weekend at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC, defeating Canes North, 2-1; Delmarva Canes, 4-3; ITC Spiders, 6-4, and Baltimore Blue Jays, 10-0.
In the win over Baltimore, Tunkhannock’s Chase Knott teamed with Mickey Ferrence of Hanover Area to toss a no-hitter over five innings. Knott fanned six batters.
The Mets, who also list Wyalusing’s Logan Hitchcock on their roster, will play on Long Island this weekend.
Short Track Supernationals Held
At Kirkwood, NY, on Oct. 8, Duane Howard won the Short Track Supernationals Modified feature at Five Mile Point Speedway. Danny Tyler was second, followed by Billy Pauch, Sr.
In other results, Bob Buono won the Race of Champions Street Stock feature over Nathan Peckham and Gene Sharpsteen. Klem Underwood won the first Four Cylinder feature over Rob Fiene and Todd Goldsteen. Nick Griest won the second Four Cylinder feature over Chuck Wainwright and John Carpenter. Bob Warner won the Figure Eight feature over Buck Mills, Jr. and George Brown.
Local Collegians Compete at Invitationals
Ryne Carney, an Elk Lake graduate and member of the Bucknell cross country team, finished 13th in a time of 17:02 at the Father Bede Invitational at St. Francis College on Oct. 8.Bucknell won the team title with 25 points.
Ellen Squier, a former Elk Lake runner and member of the Philadelphia Biblical cross country team, finished 55th at the DeSales Invitational on Oct. 8 with a time of 25:37.
