Phelps Wins Southern Tier 100
Jimmy Phelps won the snow-delayed Race of Champions Modified Southern Tier 100 at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, NY, on Sunday, Oct. 30. The final day of the two-day National Quarter-Mile Dirt Track Championships was pushed back one day because of the snowstorm that struck the region on Saturday, Oct. 29. Other winners Sunday included Kevan Cook (IMCA Modified Empire State Series) and Mike Nagel, Jr. (Crate Sportsman).
In action on Friday, Oct. 28, Ryan Jordan won the Race of Champions Sportsman 100. Other winners included Louie Gordinier (Race of Champion Street Stocks), Ken Underwood (Colossal Cat Challenge) and Nick Griest (Four Cylinder Challenger).
Youth Football Wraps up Season
Wyalusing Youth Football and Cheerleading completed its season on Sunday, Oct. 30, with make-up games at Wellsboro. The games were originally slated for September, but were postponed because of the floods in the region.
The A team completed an undefeated season (7-0) with a 13-12 win over Wellsboro to claim the Northern Tier Youth Football League title for the second straight year.
In other games, the B team scored on the game’s last play to escape with a 26-20 victory. The team finished with a 5-2 record and placed third in the league. The C team, 1-6, finished sixth in the league after dropping a 20-0 decision.
Wyalusing will host a sixth-grade NTYFL All-Star Game at Peterson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 5. Game time is 6 p.m.
