Moosic Mets Complete Season

The Moosic Mets, a travel baseball team, recently completed its season with an appearance in the Diamond Nation Tournament in Flemington, NJ. The Mets defeated North Jersey Cardinals, 5-4, Connecticut Blue Jays, 5-1, and Long Island Titans, 7-2, to reach the semifinals. They lost to South Troy Dodgers, 7-3.

Wyalusing Valley student Logan Hitchcock had four hits over the weekend, including a double in the win over Long Island. He also drove in a pair of runs in the semifinal loss.

 

Baptist Bible Wins NCCAA Title

Baptist Bible College won the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II women’s soccer championship with three shutout victories at the national tournament in Kissimmee, FL, on Nov. 9-12, including a 1-0 win over Point University in the final.

Elk Lake graduate Karin Mowry, a member of the Baptist Bible squad, scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Manhattan Christian in the opening round on Nov. 9.

Baptist Bible reached the final with a 3-0 win over Northland International on Nov. 10.

Cierra Byron recorded all three shutouts for the Lady Defenders. Erin Law had three goals in the tourney to earn Outstanding Player honors. Carly Harper was Defensive Player of the Tournament. Sandy Richie, the Michelle Akers Award winner, and Warren Center resident Jackie Jennings joined Law and Harper on the all-tournament team.

 

Towanda, North Penn Still Alive

Towanda, following a 35-20 win over Danville on Nov. 11, advanced to the District Four, Class AA football semifinals. The Black Knights, now 9-1, will host Bloomsburg at Endless Mountains Athletics Complex on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. Lewisburg, a 35-7 winner over Athens in another Class AA first-round game, will face Mount Carmel in the other semifinal.

North Penn will host Tamaqua for the Division II Eastern Conference championship on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.

Two Northern Tier League schools were eliminated in the District Four, Class A playoffs on Nov. 11. Southern Columbia defeated Sayre, 55-7, while Line Mountain blanked Canton, 38-0.
