Valley View Defeats Elk Lake Boys' Soccer
Valley View’s Brandon Jackson scored the game-winning goal, his third of the game, as the Cougars defeated Elk Lake, 3-2, in boys’ soccer action, on Sept. 2.
Trailing 2-0, Elk Lake battled back to tie the match on Matt Cuomo’s unassisted goal and another by Cody Franssen. Cuomo assisted on the Franssen goal.
Valley View outshot the Warriors, 15-5.
On Sept. 1, Adam Phillips split with Wallenpaupack’s Kane Kellogg to avert a shutout in an 8-5-0.5 Elk Lake loss.
In other individual matches, Alex Jackson defeated Ricky Guiton, 4-and-3; Julia Santo downed Jeremy Schwarztrauber, 5-and-4; Eric Miller dropped Zack Canfield, 3-and-2; John Pillar stopped Matt Domasiewicz, 5-and-3, and Kyle Jackson defeated Marshall McCarty, 5-and-3.
Miller and Piller defeated Canfield and Domasiewicz, 4-and-3, in better-ball play. Alex Jackson and Santo downed Guiton and Schwarztrauber, 4-and-3. Kyle Jackson and Kellogg defeated McCarty and Phillips, 3-and-1.
On Sept. 1, Elk Lake’s Taylor Watkins and Hannah Cave defeated Mid Valley’s Taylir Evans and Kara Falzone, 6-4, 6-4, in a 4-1 loss to the Spartanettes.
Mid Valley’s Maria Berg and Delaney Reynolds downed Megan Bush and Lydia Watkins, 6-3, 6-1, in the other doubles’ match.
In singles’ action, Marisa Troiani defeated Lindsay Shingler, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Julie May downed Kyleen Sisson, 6-0, 6-3. Jessie Brudnicki dropped Sonya Griffiths, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
On Sept. 6, Montrose defeated Elk Lake, 3-2, in the Lackawanna League opener for both schools.
After losing the first two games by identical 25-21 scores, Elk Lake bounced back with a 25-20 win in the third game and a 25-22 victory in the fourth.
Montrose closed out the match, winning the fifth game, 15-5.
