WVHS Baseball: Rams Earn All-Star Honors

Two Wyalusing Valley baseball players earned first-team status in balloting by the Northern Tier League East coaches recently.

Juniors Logan Hitchcock and Joey Champluvier were the Rams’ first teamers, while teammate Andrew Pickett, a sophomore, was named to the second team.

Kye Novak, a junior, made the honorable mention list.

Hitchcock, a shortstop, led the team in hitting with a .465 average. He drove in 16 runs and had one home run.

He also pitched 16 innings for the Rams, compiling a 1-1 record. He had a 2.63 E.R.A. while recording 19 strikeouts and four walks.

Champluvier led the team in hits (28), doubles (7), triples (1) and home runs (2). He batted .444, second only behind Hitchcock. He drove in 14 runs and stole six bases.

In eight innings on the mound, Champluvier had a 3.50 E.R.A. with 13 strikeouts and four walks.

Pickett saw most of his action as a pitcher, finishing with a 1-2 record over 18 innings. He had a 3.50 E.R.A., while fanning 16 batters and walking seven.

At the plate, he had a triple.

Novak, a slick fielding shortstop, had a .259 batting average and drove in four runs. He stole five bases.

In the special awards, Sayre’s Taylor Skerpon was named the league’s Player of the Year. Zach Place of Towanda was Pitcher of the Year. Canton’s Josiah Bardo was Rookie of the Year. The Towanda coaches were named Staff of the Year after guiding the team undefeated through the league schedule.

Also earning first-team honors were Athens’ Chris Pack and Justin Schlosser; Canton’s Ryan Ball, Corey Lee, Ben Pepper, Scott Rockwell and Kaleb Route; Sayre’s Taylor Skerpon, Nick Skerpon and Alex Lyons and Towanda’s Casey Huff, Cody Miller, Place, Zack Ripic and Mason Roof.

The second team included Athens’ Adam McCauley, Curt Moore and Trey Patton; Canton’s Bardo; Northeast Bradford’s Kurt Mallow and James Zajac; Towanda’s Austin Markel and Grady Robinson and Sayre’s Dom Villanti.

On the honorable mention list were Athens’ Zach Colegrove and Craig Moore; Northeast Bradford’s Coy Gobble; Sayre’s Tyler Williams; Towanda’s Brandon Dinelli and Troy’s Shane Rockwell.
