WVHS Football: Montgomery JVs Down Rams
Montgomery’s Tyler Betz scored on runs of five and 10 yards as the Red Raiders defeated the Wyalusing Valley junior varsity, 12-6, on Oct. 17.
With 2:03 to play in the first half at Montgomery, Betz scored from the 5, snapping a scoreless tie.
Wyalusing’s Brandon Davis intercepted the pass for the two-point conversion.
The Rams, who fell to 1-4 with the loss, moved the ball twice late in the first half, but came up dry.
First, Montgomery recovered a Ram fumble to stop one promising drive.
Davis intercepted a Red Raider pass with 22 seconds left in the half, setting up a long run by Tim Ace inside Montgomery’s 10. However, time ran out on half before the Rams could capitalize on the opportunity.
Montgomery recovered another Ram fumble at the start of the second half.
With its back to the wall, Wyalusing’s defense stopped Montgomery on downs.
Betz gave Montgomery a 12-0 lead with 9:26 in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run.
Wyalusing’s Dylan Otis scored on a one-yard run with 3:00 left to play.
With 38 seconds left, Montgomery closed out any chance of a Ram comeback with yet another fumble recovery.
“We had more first downs and fewer punts, but we couldn’t get a sustained drive going without either a penalty or fumble setting us back,” Ram coach Brent Trowbridge said.
Wyalusing will host Cowanesque Valley at Peterson Stadium on Monday, Oct. 24. Game time is 6 p.m.
