WVHS Girls' Basketball: Lady Rams Start Strong

 

The Wyalusing Valley girls’ basketball team opened the season with a 3-0 record following its 65-30 win at Sullivan County on Dec. 13.

Alexis Daly had a double-double for the Lady Rams with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Wyalusing led 16-9 after the first quarter and pulled out to a 33-15 halftime lead. The Lady Rams outscored the Lady Griffins, 32-15, in the second half.

Arielle Kneller added 10 points and seven rebounds for Wyalusing. Laci Holdren chipped in nine points.

Alyssa McDonald and Addie Jordan each netted eight points for Sullivan County.

Jordan pulled down six rebounds. Mckenna Bagley added four caroms.

Sullivan County committed 39 turnovers, while Wyalusing made 24 miscues.

In the junior varsity game, Paighton Martin, Ally DeVoir, Kasey DeVoir and Keon Copp each had nine points as the Lady Rams defeated Sullivan County, 56-3.

Ysabella Bialer had two points for the Lady Griffins.

 

Cowanesque Valley Tournament

The Lady Rams opened the season with two wins at the Cowanesque Valley Tournament on Dec. 9-10.

Wyalusing rallied from a 22-17 halftime deficit to defeat the host Lady Indians, 40-31.

The game was tied at 26-26 entering the fourth quarter.

Holdren, who was named the tournament MVP, finished the game with 10 points and nine steals.

Daly, who also earned all-tournament honors, had a double-double, pulling down 19 rebounds to go with a game-high 15 points. She also had six steals.

Holdren and Daly netted five points each in the Lady Rams’ fourth-quarter rally.

Kneller pulled down 15 rebounds.

Cowanesque’s Carly Murdock finished with 10 points.

In the tournament opener on Dec. 9, the Lady Rams defeated Port Allegany, 46-25.

Kasey DeVoir paced Wyalusing with 13 points, while Holdren and Mackenzie Martin each added nine.

Kneller grabbed 12 rebounds. Holdren made six steals.

Rebecca Lathrop paced Port Allegany with seven points.

In the junior varsity game, played on Dec. 10, Wyalusing defeated Cowanesque Valley, 37-9. Ally DeVoir led Wyalusing with nine points.
