WVHS Girls Soccer Downs Towanda in Overtime
After a stirring double overtime victory over Towanda, the Wyalusing Valley girls’ soccer team lost their scoring touch, dropping a pair of shutout losses to Troy and Athens.
Wyalusing’s record entering its Oct. 12 game with Mansfield was 6-6.
Athens 5, Wyalusing 0
At Athens, on Oct. 10, Emily Casterline stopped all four shots she faced for the Lady Wildcats.
Athens’ Kirsten Colegrove scored three goals and Emily Patton and Rachael Donnelly each had one goal.
Colegrove and Donnelly each had an assist as did Monica Dougherty and Mackenzie Hafer.
Wyalusing’s Courtney Larson made eight saves.
Athens outshot Wyalusing, 13-4, and had an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.
Troy 2, Wyalusing 0
At Wyalusing, on Oct. 8, Emily Hunsicker scored unassisted goals at 6:35 of the first half and 24:56 of the second half to pace the Lady Trojans.
Rachel Stafford made three saves in the shutout.
McKenzi Millard had four saves for the Lady Rams, who were outshot, 6-3.
Troy had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Wyalusing 3, Towanda 2
At Wyalusing, on Oct. 6, Paighton Martin scored the game-winner at 5:08 of the second overtime period for the Lady Rams. Lauren Chadwick and Ally DeVoir assisted on the goal.
Towanda took the early lead on Ashley Fleming’s goal at 3:09.
Chadwick scored the first of her two goals at 8:56 of the first half. Bethany Hulsizer assisted on the goal.
Chadwick gave Wyalusing a short-lived lead at 9:59 in the second half. Kasey DeVoir had the assist.
Towanda’s Carolyn Black knotted the score at 2-2 56 seconds later.
Wyalusing outshot Towanda, 13-5, and had a 5-2 corner-kick advantage.
Millard had three saves in net for the Lady Rams. Larson also saw time in goal.
Michelle Aronson had 10 saves for Towanda.
Wyalusing 3, Wellsboro 2
At Wellsboro, on Oct. 5, Chadwick scored the game-winning goal at 24:05 of the second half. Martin and Ally DeVoir assisted on the goal.
Martin staked the Lady Rams to a 2-0 half-time lead with a pair of goals. Chadwick assisted on Martin’s first goal at 33:27. At 34:44, Martin added an unassisted goal.
Wellsboro tied the score early in the second half.
Brooke Kohler and Sarah Kramer each scored for the Lady Hornets. Kim Acorn assisted on Kohler’s goal at 6:04. Kramer’s unassisted goal came at 19:12.
Millard had six saves for Wyalusing.
Sherri Hovis made four stops for Wellsboro.
Wellsboro outshot Wyalusing, 8-7, and had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
