WVHS Girls' Soccer: Lady Rams Face Tough Task
Following a 2-0 loss to Northeast Bradford on Oct. 17, the Wyalusing Valley girls’ soccer team needs to win one of its final two games to clinch a berth in the District Four, Class A playoff field.
Wyalusing, now 7-7-1, hosts Troy on Thursday, Oct. 20, and concludes the season on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Towanda.
Teams need a .500 record to qualify for the district playoffs.
“The character of the entire team will be tested,” said Lady Ram head coach Nick Maghamez.
Currently the Lady Rams have a four-season streak of District Four playoff appearances dating back to 2007.
Northeast Bradford 2, Wyalusing 0
At LeRaysville, on Oct. 17, Bridget Haverly and MaKaylah Holbert each scored within a two-minute span for the Lady Panthers.
Haverly’s goal, off a Holbert assist, came at 4:25 of the second half.
At 6:20, Holbert added an unassisted insurance goal.
Kelsey Carlsen stopped nine Wyalusing shots.
Courtney Larson had two saves for Wyalusing.
Wyalusing had a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 corner-kick edge.
Wyalusing 12, Williamson 0
At Wyalusing, on Oct. 13, the Lady Rams scored at will in the game that was delayed by lightning and played under wet, muddy conditions.
Lauren Chadwick led Wyalusing with four goals. Brooklyn Edgerton added a pair of goals, including the first of her career. Morgan Doerner, Sydney Snyder and Katie Prichard also scored their first varsity goals. Kasey DeVoir, Ally DeVoir and Paighton Martin also scored.
Kayleen Sutton (3), Martin (2), Liz Keeney (2), Kasey DeVoir (2) Ciera Holland, Chadwick, Abby Borel, Snyder, Doerner, Jordan Armitage, Edgerton, Morgan Sutton and Tiffany Newton added assists.
Courtney Larson and Lily Carter split time in net. Neither goalkeeper had a save as Wyalusing held Williamson without a shot on goal. Larson was credited with the win.
Vanessa Earle had 11 saves for Williamson.
Wyalusing had 23 shots on goal and made seven corner kicks.
Wyalusing 1, Mansfield 1
At Mansfield, on Oct. 12, Kasey DeVoir tied the score for the Lady Rams with 3:13 left in regulation. Martin assisted on the goal.
Mansfield’s Hayley Kotulka had given the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 12:20 of the second half.
Larson had nine saves for Wyalusing.
Kasey Evans made three stops for Mansfield.
Mansfield outshot Wyalusing, 10-4, and had a 10-7 edge in corner kicks.
