WVHS Girls' Soccer: Sayre Spoils Lady Ram Debut
Wyalusing Valley’s girls’ soccer season finally got underway on Tuesday, Sept. 13 with a 5-1 home loss to Sayre.
The Lady Rams had originally been scheduled to open the 2011 campaign against Sayre on Sept. 7, but that game was moved back six days. As it turns out, that game would have been postponed along with the Towanda and Troy matches on Sept. 10 and Sept. 12, respectively, because of last weeks flooding.
Sayre’s Elyse Skerpon had three goals and Mikayla McNamara added two goals.
Jessie Haighes and Rachel Hurley each had an assist.
Lauren Chadwick scored an unassisted goal for Wyalusing with nine minutes left in the first half.
Sayre had a 14-11 edge in shots. The Lady Rams couldn’t take advantage of a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Courtney Larson made eight saves for the Lady Rams.
