WVHS Harriers Open Season at Lock Haven

The Wyalusing Valley cross country teams opened the 2004 season with fifth-place finishes at the Lock Haven Invitational on Sept. 4.

Derek Howard led the Wyalusing boys with a 13th place finish in a time of 18:43, just three seconds ahead of teammate Clay Stevens, who was 14th. Both runners medaled.

Other finishers for Wyalusing in the 86-person field that represented 12 schools included Grant Smith-Gary (26th, 19:26), Tom Larrabee (37th, 20:01), Robbie Miller (45th, 20:37), Andrew Howard (59th, 22:00), Matt Miller (68th, 23:12) and John Cook (86th, 31:18).

In the girls' meet, Erika Cook led Wyalusing with an eighth-place finish in 22:44. Ashley Beebe was 14th with a time of 23:30, followed by Colleen Potter (24th, 24:10), Rose Marie Belcher (61st, 29:48) and Tracy Ely (69th, 36:31).

Cook and Beebe medaled in the 71-person field.

Wyalusing sophomore Alyssa Tewksbury missed the meet as she recovers from mononucleosis.

In the junior high race over the two-mile track, Wyalusing's boys finished third.

Colton Schools paced the Rams with a ninth-place finish in 13:52.

Three other Rams medaled. They were Noah Shumway (10th, 14:20, Jim Bob Belcher (12th, 15:18) and Adam Azpiazu (15th, 16:30).

Other runners included Jordy Ellis (16th, 18:21) and Ryan Carr (17th, 18:23).

The Wyalusing girls finished second, led by Annett Donovan's sixth-place finish in 15:36.

Other runners included April Tewksbury (18th, 16:57), Jasmyn Roehrig (19th, 16:57), Sarah Valis (21st, 17:03), Rachel Matson (23rd, 18:23), Ashley Page (27th, 19:22) and Bridget Wells (31st, 23:32).
