WVHS Harriers Sweep Athens, Troy

 

The Wyalusing Valley girls’ and boys’ cross country team completed a sweep of Troy and Athens at Round Top Park on Sept. 27.

Aaron Woodruff paced the Rams, who defeated Athens, 20-37, and Troy, 19-40. He was the overall race winner with a time of 17:42, edging Troy’s Zack Depereaux by eight seconds. Wyalusing’s Tyler Sutton was third in 17:52. Athens’ Matt Millard was fourth in 18:08.

The other Wyalusing places and times were Brenten Gerould (5, 18:22), Mark Kusmierz (6, 18:27), Mitchell Pickett (9, 19:09), Matt Woodruff (11, 19:18), Jordan Schools (17, 19:47), Cody Pickett (22, 20:32), Dom Ciccolini (28, 21:57), Brian Sanger (29, 22:23) and Clint Crawford (33, 23:25).

For the girls, who defeated Athens, 23-32, and Troy, 22-33, Erika Huffman was the overall race winner in 20:05.

Troy’s Casey Norton was second in 20:13 followed by Athens’ Paige Bennett in 22:16.

Wyalusing’s Pam Kelley was fourth in 22:26. The other Lady Ram places and times were Mackenzie Martin (6, 23:13), Savannah Schools (9, 24:19), Arielle Kneller (10, 24:31), Emily Edwards (18, 27:12), Logan Steele (19, 27:17) and Carlyn Edsell (21, 28:45).

The boys’ team improved to 2-2, while the girls stay undefeated at 4-0.

 

PIAA Foundation Invitational

At Hershey, on Sept. 24, the boys’ team finished 16th and the girls’ squad was 20th in their respective Varsity Blue races on the Parkview Cross Country Course.

The boys, who finished with 410 points, were led by Tyler Sutton, who finished 29th in 18:12. Other overall places and times included Aaron Woodruff (62, 18:44), Gerould (86, 19:11), Kusmierz (111, 19:43), Matt Woodruff (125, 20:00), Mitchell Pickett (175, 20:52) and Cody Pickett (234, 22:13).

Huffman medaled with her 14th-place finish in 21:05 to lead the Lady Rams, who had 219 points.

Other overall places and times included Kelley (88, 23:52), Martin (130, 25:05), Kneller (162, 26:21), Schools (175, 27:22), Edsell (197, 29:10) and Edwards (213, 30:27).
