WVHS Senior Holds Volleyball Camp
Elesha Schulze, an incoming senior at Wyalusing Valley, conducted a volleyball camp for elementary and junior high girls as her senior project on June 20-23 at the high school.
Five elementary girls from the upcoming fifth and sixth grades participated in the camp, while seven junior high girls took part.
“I chose a volleyball camp for my senior project because when I was younger I never had an introduction to volleyball until junior high,” said Schulze, who is a member of the varsity squad.
She pointed out that most other sports have summer camps for the younger players.
“Why not volleyball?” she said.
“Volleyball is fun for me to do and I wanted a fun time doing it and I am,” she added.
While the campers may have learned about the game, Schulze admitted she also gained something from the experience.
“I learned that patience is the key,” she said. “It was a maturing experience knowing that I am the one in charge of keeping all the kids safe.”
The experience gave her a greater appreciation for her coaches and teachers.
“It is a lot of work to make up the schedules and put everything together, get everything set up and running.”
Junior high coach Tanya Krewson was Schulze’s mentor for the project.
She was also assisted by several fellow students, including Cassie Nedley, Cathryn Pugh, Erika Huffman and Laci Holdren.
The seventh and eighth grade class included Gerrica Clouse, Sammi Smiley, Madelyn Edsell, McKenzie Krewson, Veronica Morrison, Georgia O’Connor and Bretny Seamon.
Madisyn Bolinger, Mary Ellen Smiley, Kendal Krewson, Karlye Huffman and Cheyenne Jenner made up the elementary class.
