WVHS Softball: Lady Rams Blank Canton, Towanda
Wyalusing Valley’s Brianna Jennings tossed her second straight shutout, including a no-hitter against Towanda earlier, and drove in the game’s only run in a 1-0 home victory over Canton on April 26.
Jennings’s RBI groundout in the first inning plated Bobbi Jo Loyack. Loyack, who finished with two hits, had reached on a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch that enabled her to score on the play.
In the circle, Jennings held Canton to just two hits—singles by Becca McMurray and Chelsea Heatley. She fanned 12 batters and walked four.
After the first inning, Heatley proved to be a puzzle for the Lady Ram batters. She scattered six hits and walked four batters, while recording one strikeout.
Wyalusing stranded eight baserunners.
Arielle Kneller, Laci Holdren, Gabby Edsell and Mackenzie Martin all singled for Wyalusing.
With the win, Wyalusing improved to 5-1, overall, and 3-1 in the Northern Tier League East.
Wyalusing 3, Towanda 0
At Wysox, on April 22, Jennings tossed a no-hitter in the victory.
Jennings fanned 12 batters, while allowing just one walk.
Loyack and Holdren each had RBI singles for Wyalusing.
Holdren’s hit plated Kneller, who reached on a single in the third inning. Kneller moved into scoring position when Jennings walked. Jennings eventually scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth inning, Loyack, who also had a double in the game, singled home Lauren Chadwick, who reached on an error.
Towanda’s Allison Wickwire had nine strikeouts. She allowed three walks and hit one batter.
Wyalusing 13, Athens 3
At Wyalusing, on April 20, Jennings was a home run away from hitting for the cycle as the Lady Rams pounded out 13 hits en route to the five-inning victory.
Wyalusing scored twice in the first inning and broke the game open with a seven-run uprising in the second inning. They added three runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth.
Jennings drove in four runs on a single, double and triple.
Cathryn Pugh added a pair of hits. Edsell doubled. Other hitters included Loyack, Holdren, Mackenzie Martin and Caitlyn Doerner.
Kneller drove in three runs, while Loyack, Martin, Holdren, Doerner and Pugh each had one RBI.
Jennings fanned six batters with two walks and a pair of hits.
Emily Faulkner closed out the game, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
Christin Dunkling accounted for most of Athens’ offense with a home run and a double for two RBIs.
Sarah Reid and Alexis Vandruff each singled.
Alexa Daddona took the loss with one strikeout and one walk.
