WVHS Softball: Lady Rams Claim Williamsport Title

 

After a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at Northeast Bradford on April 27, Wyalusing Valley bounced back with four straight victories, including three to claim the Williamsport Tournament title last weekend.

The Lady Rams improved to 10-2, overall, and 4-2 in the Northern Tier League East.

 

Williamsport Tournament

At Elm Park, on April 30, Chelsea Epler’s RBI single scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning as Wyalusing defeated Central Dauphin, 1-0, in the title game.

Brianna Jennings, who along with Epler, finished with two hits in the victory, scored the run.

Laci Holdren doubled for the Lady Rams’ only other hit.

Jennings allowed three hits and two walks, while fanning six in the victory.

Earlier that day, in the semifinals, Wyalusing outlasted Mifflinburg, 4-3, in eight innings.

Holdren paced Wyalusing with a triple and a single, while driving in two runs.

Arielle Kneller added a pair of singles and an RBI. Jennings, Epler, Gabby Edsell and Lauren Chadwick all singled.

Jennings and Edsell each drove in a run.

In the circle, Jennings gave up five hits and two walks. She fanned six batters.

Wyalusing opened the tournament on April 29 with a 4-2 win over South Williamsport.

The Lady Rams scored all their runs in the fourth inning.

Cathryn Pugh doubled and drove in a run for Wyalusing. Kneller and Edsell each had two hits. Epler, Chadwick, Mackenzie Martin and Bobbi Jo Loyack all singled.

Martin and Holdren each drove in a run.

Jennings recorded 11 strikeouts. She gave up three hits and four walks.

 

Wyalusing 9, Sayre 3

At Sayre, on April 26, the Lady Rams scored five runs in the seventh inning to dispose of their pesky hosts.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning, Wyalusing allowed Sayre to tie the game two frames later.

Wyalusing added two more runs in the fifth inning, only to have the Lady Redskins bounce back with another run in the bottom of the stanza.

Edsell led the Lady Rams with four hits. Jennings and Pugh each had doubles.

Loyack, Martin and Caitlyn Doerner also had hits.

Emily Faulkner pitched the first four innings. Jennings closed out the game. They gave up seven hits and one walk, while recording 10 strikeouts.

 

Northeast Bradford 3, Wyalusing 1

The Lady Panthers scored solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to hand Wyalusing its second league loss at LeRaysville, on April 27.

With the score tied 1-1, Calla Martin reached on an error for Northeast Bradford. An error off the bat of Alicia Parks scored Martin for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Wyalusing committed four errors in the contest.

In the sixth inning, Taylor Keefe doubled and eventually scored on Martin’s RBI single.

The Lady Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kelsey Carlsen singled home MaKayah Holbert, who had singled.

Wyalusing’s only run came in the fourth inning.

Kneller opened the frame with a double and scored on Pugh’s two-out double.

Pugh led the Lady Rams with a pair of doubles. Jennings and Ciera Holland had the only other hits for Wyalusing.

Jennings gave up seven hits and walked two batters with five strikeouts in the loss.

Mindy LaBarre started the game for Northeast Bradford, working four innings, allowing four hits and one walk, while fanning two batters.

Chelsea Souto closed out the game, picking up the win with three innings of work that included one hit and four strikeouts.

Keefe and LaBarre paced the Lady Panthers with two hits each.
