WVHS Spikers Defeat Sayre
Wyalusing Valley improved to 1-1 in the Northern Tier League race with a 3-1 win at Sayre on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The Lady Rams, who hadn’t played in a week because of the recent flooding, jumped out to a 2-0 lead, taking the first game, 25-23 and the second, 25-21. Sayre rallied to win the third game, 25-21. Wyalusing closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth game.
Erin Dean-Swank had 18 kills, two blocks and three digs for Wyalusing.
Erika Huffman handed out 21 assists to go along with seven kills, four digs and three points.
Laci Holdren had 19 points, including four aces, 22 digs, four kills, two blocks and an assist.
Christina Hons added 19 digs, nine points, nine assists and a kill.
Veronica Morrison served up 16 points and had eight blocks and eight kills.
Sayre’s Kelly Villanti served up 14 points. She and Jenna Twigg each had 15 assists. Desirae Waltman made 11 digs.
Sayre won the junior varsity match, 2-0 (25-6, 26-24).
Shelby Vaughn had nine points for Sayre.
Delana Szemple, Alicia Tewksbury and Jessica Card each had eight points for Wyalusing. Szemple also had four aces and two kills. Tewksbury had an ace, one dig, an assist and two kills. Card added a dig.
Bailey Smith had three points, two digs and an assist.
