WVHS Wrestlers Dominate Wildcats
The Wyalusing Valley wrestlers entered the Christmas break with a dominating 77-6 win over Athens at Layman Gymnasium on Dec. 22.
Eight pins and four forfeits provided the Rams all the points they needed against the overmatched Wildcats.
Warner Mendoza opened the match with a forfeit win at 195. Colston Gowin (113), Tyler Fenton (160) and Anthony Clark (182) also received forfeits.
Dylan Otis (220), Clayton Force (285), Austin Shaffer (106), Brandon Kelley (120), Ryan Force (132), Tim Kuntz (145), Joey Champluvier (152) and Dan Frankenfield (170) all recorded falls.
Otis pinned Seth Shaughnessy in 1:38. Clayton Force stopped Alex Shaughnessy in 1:56. Shaffer dropped Adam Shaylor in 3:42. Kelley decked Dylan Whipple in 31 seconds. Ryan Force needed 51 seconds to pin Corey Shiposh. Kuntz just beat the first-period buzzer to stop Matt Anderson at 1:59. Frankenfield pinned Pat Donnelly in 1:56.
Ryan Hart, wrestling at 138 pounds, recorded a 17-2 technical fall over Marshall LeBlanc in 3:47.
Athens’ only win came at 126 pounds where Sam Vargason turned a second-period reversal into a 3:42 pin of Justin Haley.
Wyalusing, now 8-0, overall, and 2-0 in the Northern Tier League Large School race, returns to dual-meet action on Jan. 5 when they travel to Wellsboro.
