WVHS Wrestling: Rams Down Sayre in NTL Opener
Wyalusing Valley picked up five pins and received four forfeits en route to a 65-10 win over Sayre in the Northern Tier League opener for both squads.
The Rams, now 6-0, only lost two bouts in the home match at Layman Gymnasium on Dec. 13.
Warner Mendoza and Dylan Otis started the match out with forfeits at 195 and 220 pounds, respectively.
Clayton Force followed with a 1:08 pin of Sayre’s Zach Cecce at 285, followed by Austin Shaffer’s 1:41 pin of Gaber Alsayed at 106.
Sayre’s James Lee cut the deficit to 24-5 with a 17-2 technical fall over Colston Gowin in 3:50 of their 113-pound bout.
Wyalusing’s Brandon Kelley and Justin Haley each received forfeits at 120 and 126, respectively.
Ryan Hart added a 1:51 pin of Zack Keir at 132 pounds. It was the sixth straight pin for Hart this season.
Jesse Buck completed the scoring for Sayre at 138 pounds with a 15-0 technical fall over Ryan Force at 2:48.
Wyalusing’s Tim Kuntz and Joey Champluvier then recorded back-to-back major decisions at 145 and 152, respectively. Kuntz defeated Kyle Post, 9-1, while Champluvier downed Lucas Simonis, 14-1.
At 160, Tyler Fenton blanked Chris Ott, 6-0.
Dan Frankenfield and Anthony Clark closed out the match with pins. At 170, Frankenfield stopped James Harbst in 1:29. Clark decked Justin Fiske in 1:31 at 182.
The Rams return to action this weekend at the Carlisle Tournament. They will then travel to Milton on Dec. 20 for a varsity-only match.
