WVMP Honors Track Champions

 

Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park (WVMP) honored the 2011 season champions at its annual award banquet at the Wysox Fire Hall on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Overall, a little less than $9,000 in cash, gift certificates and trophies were presented, thanks to the sponsorship of Burris Racing Tire, Aero Wings, JRS Kart Parts, Keizer Wheels, Lias Tire/American Racer Tire, Saldana Racing Products and Calaman Radiator.

Jordan Tittle pocketed $1,000 and gift certificates for each of his track titles in the 600 Microsprint and 270 Microsprint divisions.

Dalton Maynard earned $500 for his $500 All Star Slingshot title.

Alex Shaffer collected $400 as Junior Slingshot champion.

Joel Smith was the Stage One Mod champion.

The kart division champions included Destiny Powell (Rookie Purple), Seth Anderson (Novice Blue), Ryan Funk (SportsKids), Nick Funk (SportsMan), Logan Terry (Clones), Scott Lamphere (Flatheads) and Steve Potochney (Animals).

Besides the champions, awards were also presented to as many as the top 10 point finishers in each division.

Several special awards were also presented.

Schultz Auto Body sponsored the Hard Charger Awards which went to Conner Davis (Rookie Purple), Matt Addona (Novice Blue), Ryan Funk (SportsKids), Kyle Traver (SportsMen), Tyler Chapman (Clones), Cal Snyder (Flatheads), Wayne Miller (Animals), Alex Shaffer (Junior Slingshots), Jake Maynard (All Star Slingshots), Mark Wurzler (270 Microsprints) and Jordan Tittle (600 Microsprints).

The Front Runner Awards, sponsored by J.W. Maynard & Sons Truck Repair, went to Craig Smith (Rookie Purple), Matt Addona (Novice Blue), Ryan Funk (SportsKids), Nick Funk (SportsMen), Logan Terry (Clones), Cal Snyder (Flatheads), Steve Potochney (Animals), Alex Shaffer (Junior Slingshots), Dalton Maynard (All Star Slingshots), Jordan Tittle (270 Microsprints) and Austin Ely (600 Microsprints).

The Best Appearing Car Awards, sponsored by Wyalusing Collision Repair, went to Haley Powell (Rookie Purple), Riley Gowin (Novice Blue), Lucas Bahr (SportsKids), Rodney McConnell (SportsMen), Rob Bahr (Clones), Quinn Davis (Flatheads), Steve Potochney (Animals), Jared Zionkowski (Junior Slingshots), Jake Maynard (All Star Slingshots), Gene Beadle (270 Microsprints) and John Zionkowski (600 Microsprints).

Forbes Machine Shop Most Improved Driver Awards went to Doug Newbigging (Rookie Purple), Jacob Doyle (Novice Blue), Jaye Winemiller (SportsKids), Kyle Traver (SportsMen), Logan Terry (Clones), David Perry (Flatheads), Bob Coveney (Animals), Kamdin Maby (Junior Slingshots), Nick Molyneaux (All Star Slingshots), Tim Aberant (270 Microsprints) and Kayla Wilkins (600 Microsprints).

Sherwood Groves Auto Group & Powersports sponsored the Rookie of the Year Awards that went to Levi Bellis (Rookie Purple), Seth Anderson (Novice Blue), Kelsey Pierce (SportsKids), Jerry Traver (SportsMen), Logan Terry (Clones), Quinn Davis (Flatheads), Scott Lamphere (Animals), Abbey Price (Junior Slingshots), Cody Fassett (All Star Slingshots), Derek Frederick (270 Microsprints) and Kayla Wilkins (600 Microsprints).

There were also several individuals honored.

Ron Shaffer won the Carlin’s Auto Repair Mechanic of the Year Award.

Gene Beadle received the Hard Luck Award, sponsored by Yale’s Music Shop.

Austin Bishop won Pickering Winery’s Most Spectacular Ride Award.

Maria Maby and Barbara Frace were selected as Fans of the Year.

The WVMP Dedication to Motorsports individual and business awards went to Ruthann Nace and JRS Kart Parts, respectively.

Kyle Travel won the Drew Chapman Memorial Award for Professionalism and Enthusiasm.

Logan Steele accepted the Audrey Rosengrant Memorial Award for Professionalism and Enthusiasm.

Those in attendance also received updates on the Homets Ferry track’s plans for the 2012 season.

The Junior Slingshot division will be dropped from the schedule, except for the National Tour event, unless at least five teams commit to racing the full season at WVMP.

For 2012, two new divisions will be added—Rookie 270 Microsprints and Super Seniors karts. The Super Seniors is for drivers 35 and older driving uncaged karts with SportsMan rules.

It was also announced that several other proposed changes will be made to the track itself, including adjusting the backstretch configuration, modifying the banking and adding more clay.

Bryan’s Meat Cutting of East Smithfield catered the dinner.

Many door prizes were handed out.

Holly Stark served as DJ for the event.

The Savage Enterprises four-person sprint car simulator provided entertainment, including a special “Big Willy Match Race.”

Track promoter Billy Maynard battled three challengers—Jared Zionkowski (12-under WVMP driver), Austin Ely (13-up WVMP driver) and non-driver Heather Hadlock.

Zionkowski pocketed the $100 prize provided by Maynard and Z’s Repair Service. Maynard was second, followed by Ely and Hadlock.
