Warrior Wrapup: Lady Warriors Top Seeds for Playoffs
Elk Lake softball completed the regular season undefeated to earn the top spot in the District Two, Class AA playoffs.
On May 23, Brooke Darling tossed a six-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Mountain View to secure the top spot in the playoffs. She fanned 15 batters.
Gabby Baltzley, Kenzi Moon, Kyla Watkins, Casey Tyler and Brianna Hollenbeck all had hits for Elk Lake. Tyler and Moon each had an RBI.
On May 22, Hollenbeck drove in the game’s only run in the first inning as Elk Lake defeated Susquehanna, 1-0.
Gabby Baltzley, who scored the winning run, had two hits for the Lady Warriors, as did Casey Tyler. Moon and Darling also singled.
Darling held Susquehanna to one hit, while allowing one walk and fanning 15 batters.
Elk Lake will face the winner of the Carbondale/Lakeland game in the Class AA quarterfinals on May 26.
On May 22, Elk Lake pounded out six doubles en route to a 14-0 win over Susquehanna.
Holden Lunger, Adam Phillips, Damien Dailey, Nick Dudock, Zach Moon and Pete Cooper all had two-baggers for the Warriors.
Phillips added two singles and Dudock had another. Jeff Horvath had two singles. Other hitters included Ricky Guiton, Zach Canfield and Matt Horvath.
Dailey and Dudock combined for the one-hitter. They totaled nine strikeouts.
On May 21, Jeff Horvath’s walk-off single drove in the winning runs in a 5-4 win over Mountain View.
Phillips had two doubles and two singles. Lunger had one two-bagger for Elk Lake. Horvath added a single as did Dudock.
Dudock, Dailey and Lunger combined to allow five hits and four walks, while striking out seven.
Elk Lake, the ninth seed in the District Two, Class AA tournament, was scheduled to play Mid Valley in the first round last night (May 25). The winner plays Carbondale on May 27.
