Warrior Wrapup: Lunger No-Hits Montrose


Elk Lake’s Holden Lunger tossed a no-hitter in the Warriors’ 9-1 victory over Montrose on May 5.

Lunger had 17 strikeouts and allowed just two walks. Montrose’s only run resulted from an error in the fourth inning.

Nick Dudock paced Elk Lake at the plate with four hits, including a home run and a triple. Along with Adam Phillips, who had a three hits, Dudock drove in two runs.

Ricky Guiton added an RBI on one hit. Damien Dailey and Zack Canfield also singled.

On May 9, Western Wayne held Elk Lake to singles by Phillips (2) and Lunger en route to a 7-1 win.

Dailey and Dudock combined to allow 10 hits with six strikeouts for the Warriors.



On May 5, Brianna Hollenbeck and Gabby Baltzley each had three hits to pace Elk Lake to an 8-0 win over Montrose.

Baltzley tripled and Hollenbeck doubled for the Lady Warriors, who pounded out 14 hits. Kenzi Moon, Brooke Darling and Taylor Watkins each had two hits. Casey Tyler and Sara Kwiatkowski each had one hit.

Darling fanned 12 batters in a one-hit effort. She walked one batter.

On May 9, Darling struck out 17 batters, while allowing three hits in a 3-1 victory over Western Wayne.

Casey Tyler had two of Elk Lake’s four hits. Hollenbeck and Watkins each had one single.


Boys’ Volleyball

On May 5, Melvin Route led Elk Lake in a losing effort with Lackwanna Trail, making 10 digs and hitting seven kills.

The Lions swept the match, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-7).

On May 10, Susquehanna defeated Elk Lake, 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-13).

Bo Bushnell made nine blocks and added three kills for the Warriors.


Track and Field

On May 5, Elk Lake won the boys’ and girls’ AA championships at the Jordan Relays in Scranton.

In the boys’ meet, Elk Lake finished with 45 points, edging out Blue Ridge, which had 43.

Elk Lake won the girls’ side with 48 points, while Montrose finished second with 40.

On the boys’ side, Elk Lake won four of the six races.

Will Bennett, Brad Moore, Sean Carney and Mike Bedell won the distance medley in 8:19.94. The same team combined to win the 1600 relay in 3:28.97.

Bennett, Carney, Luke Jones and Bryan Grosvenor won the 3200 relay in 8:18.53.

Bedell, Grosvenor, Joe Woolcock and Thurn Thanormthin won the 1600 medley in 3:44.24.

In the girls’ meet, Elk Lake won four races, including the distance medley where Elizabeth Trowbridge, Cassie VanEtten, Kirsten Hollister and Maria Trowbridge ran a 10:10.74.

VanEtten, Elizabeth Trowbridge, Emily Williams and Abby Zdancewicz won the 3200 relay in 10:15.44.

Maria Trowbridge, Hollister, Cindy Good and Kelsey Hermick won the 1600 medley in 4:24.55.

VanEtten, Hermick, Williams and Cassie Salsman won the 1600 relay in 4:15.65.
