Warriors Wrapup: Diamondgirls Edge Blue Ridge
On May 12, Gabby Baltzley’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning gave Elk Lake a 2-1 softball victory over Blue Ridge.
Kyla Marcy, who had singled, scored the game-winning run.
Brooke Darling accounted for Elk Lake’s other run with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Blue Ridge’s Gabby Wolfe evened the score in the sixth inning, scoring on an error after reaching on one of just four hits off Darling.
Darling finished with 11 strikeouts, without a walk.
Wolfe was just as good, also fanning 11 batters without a walk. She only gave up three hits, including a single to Darling.
On May 12, Holden Lunger recorded 10 strikeouts in an 8-0 complete-game victory over Blue Ridge. He scattered five hits.
At the plate, Ricky Guiton had three hits for the Warriors, while Lunger and Matt Horvath each had two hits. Zack Canfield, Jeff Horvath, Nick Dudock and Adam Phillips also singled.
On May 12, Forest City rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat Elk Lake, 3-2 (29-31, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-11).
Chris O’Brien served 19 points for the Warriors.
O’Brien and Jared Berg each made 17 digs.
Mark Smurkowski led Elk Lake at the net with 15 kills and 10 blocks.
