Warriors Wrapup: Thinclads Shine at Molly Dry Invitational
The Elk Lake track team took home three event titles from the Molly Dry Invitational at Mansfield University on April 9.
Mike Bedell claimed the boys’ 1600 title in 4:29.57. Brad Moore also won the 400 in 53.37.
The girls’ 3200 relay team of Lainey Bedell, Elizabeth Trowbridge, Maria Trowbridge and Emily Williams won the event in 10:14.81.
In the team standings, the Elk Lake boys’ finished second with 89 points, trailing Waverly, which had 109 points. Elk Lake was fourth in the girls’ meet, which was won by Wellsboro, with 61 points.
For the boys, the 1600 relay team of Bedell, Moore, Will Bennett and Bryan Grosvenor was second in 3:35.29.
Bob Benscoter was second in the discus (123-0.5). He also finished sixth in the shot put (38-3).
Moore was third in the 100 (12.00).
Joe Woolcock was third in the triple jump (38-6) and fifth in the long jump (18-9).
Mark Bush finished third in the shot put (42-4) and discus (122-11.5)
Luke Jones was fourth in the 3200 (10:00.05).
Trevor Gowin was fourth in the 110 hurdles (18.21).
In the high jump, Jason Vermeulen and Jeremy Schwartzrauber were fourth and sixth, respectively. Vermeulen jumped 5-6, while Schwartzrauber had a height of 5-4. Schwartzrauber also was sixth in the pole vault (11-0).
Bennett was fifth in the 800 (2:05.42).
In the girls’ meet, Kelsey Hermick and Cassie VanEtten were second and third, respectively, in the 400. Hermick ran a 1:02.15, while VanEtten finished in 1:02.69.
Maria Trowbridge added a second-place finish in the 1600 (5:29.56). She also joined Hermick, VanEtten and Kirsten Hollister to finish third in the 1600 relay (4:21.40)
Elizabeth Trowbridge was third in the 800 (2:32.00).
Kellie Grosvenor was third in the 2000 steeplechase (9:50.01).
Megan Bush was fourth in the discus (81-4.5) and sixth in the shot put (29-0.75).
Hollister was fifth in the 100 (13.69) and sixth in the 200 (28.44).
Cindy Good was sixth in the 100 hurdles (18.50) and the high jump (4-4).
Carley Bennett was sixth in the 300 hurdles (54.97).
On April 7, Elk Lake swept a dual-meet with Carbondale, winning the girls’ meet, 115.5-29-5, and the boys’ competition, 100-49.
In the girls’ meet, Maria Trowbridge, Hollister and VanEtten were each four-time winners.
Maria Trowbridge won the 1600 (5:41) and 3200 (12:19). She also ran a leg of the 3200 relay (10:44) with Elizabeth Trowbridge, VanEtten and Abby Zdancewicz. She also teamed with VanEtten, Hermick and Hollister to win the 1600 relay (4:25).
VanEtten had a solo win in the 400 (1:03.4) and joined Hollister, Hermick and Carolyn Teetsel to win the 400 relay (56.0).
Hollister won the 100 (12.9) and 200 (27.2).
Elizabeth Trowbridge won the 800 (2:39). Teetsel added a win in the shot put (30-0.75).
Good won the 100 hurdles (17.5), 300 hurdles (53.5) and high jump (4-7).
Other winners included Bush in the discus (80-8.5), Samantha Milne in the triple jump (25-9) and Bennett in the pole vault (6-0).
In the boys’ meet, Bedell, Woolcock and Moore were both four-time winners.
Bedell won the 800 in a school record time of 1:56.82. He also won the 1600 (4:47). He joined Bennett, Grosvenor and Jones to win the 3200 relay (8:41.0). Joining him on the 1600 relay (3:40) were Bennett, Grosvenor and Vermeulen.
Woolcock won the javelin (139-8), long jump (18-8) and triple jump (37-8). He also joined Dylan Simmons, Thurn Thanormthin and Moore to win the 400 relay (48.3).
Moore swept the sprints, winning the 100 (11.02), 200 (23.52) and 400 (54.2).
Jones added a win in the 3200 (10:37).
Other winners included Bush in the shot put (45-4.75), Benscoter in the discus (114-7.5) and Schwartzrauber in the high jump (5-6).
On April 12, Elk Lake swept a dual-meet with Mountain View, winning the boys’ competition, 124-26, and the girls’ event, 112-57.
In the boys’ meet, Elk Lake won the 3200 relay (10:38), 400 relay 48.8) and 1600 relay (3:52.5).
Moore won the 100 (11.9) and 400 (54.7).
Schwartzrauber won the 300 hurdles (46.1) and pole vault (10-6).
Woolcock won the javelin (124-4) and long jump (18-7.25).
Bedell took the 1600 (4:33.9). Bennett won the 800 (2:18.6). Thanormthin won the 200 (24.6). Bryant Dietrick captured the 3200 (10:56). Mark Bush won the shot put (40-9.75). Benscoter won the discus (120-0). Vermeulen won the high jump (5-6).
In the girls’ meet, Elk Lake swept the relays, winning the 3200 (11:45), 400 (57.7) and 1600 (4:40).
Individually, Good was a three-time winner, taking the 100 hurdles (17.0), 300 hurdles (54.4) and high jump (4-8).
Maria Trowbridge and Hermick were two-time winners. Trowbridge won the 1600 (6:03) and 3200 (13:57). Hermick took the 400 (1:06.9) and 200 (27.85).
Other winners included Hollister in the 100 (13.6); Elizabeth Trowbridge in the 800 (2:42); Bush in the shot put (29-0); Chelsea Karabin in the javelin (86-4); Milnes in the triple jump (26-7.75) and Bennett in the pole vault.
Mountain View defeated Elk Lake, 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-21) on April 11 despite four kills each from Aric Curry and Dan Noldy.
On April 12, Lackawanna Trail swept Elk Lake, 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-17).
Mark Smurkowski and Melvin Route had eight and four kills, respectively, for the Warriors. Smurkowski also served five aces.
On April 11, Brooke Darling held Montrose to four hits in a 1-0 victory. Darling fanned 11 batters in the win.
Elk Lake had five hits, including Laura Gacha’s RBI triple in the second inning.
Gabby Baltzley tripled and McKenzi Moon doubled for the Lady Warriors. Bri Hollenbeck and Darling each singled.
On April 12, Elk Lake pounded out 15 hits in a 10-1 win over Forest City.
Darling held Forest City to one hit, while striking out 13. At the plate, she had four hits, including a pair of doubles.
Kyla Marcy and Hollenbeck also doubled. Hollenbeck also had two singles, while Marcy had one. Other hitters included Baltzley (1), Moon (2), Casey Tyler (1), Taylor Watkins (2) and Gacha (1).
On April 11, Montrose scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to defeat Elk Lake, 6-5.
Zack Canfield and Peter McGee each had two hits for the Warriors. Holden Lunger added a triple.
Lunger started for Elk Lake, giving up three runs and three walks, while fanning five. Damien Daily worked the final four innings, surrendering three runs, while fanning four batters.
On April 12, three Elk Lake pitchers held Forest City to two hits in a 10-1 victory.
Matt Horvath and Jeff Horvath each had two hits for Elk Lake. Lunger belted a double.
