Wyalusing Golfers Stay in League Hunt

The Wyalusing Valley golf team settled for a second-place tie with Athens after the third league meet of the season on Aug. 31.

Northern Tioga won on its home course—River Valley Country Club in Westfield—with a blistering 399.

Wyalusing and Athens both totaled 434. Sayre finished with 436, followed by Wellsboro (510), Northeast Bradford (565) and Mansfield (591). Towanda only had four golfers and could not be scored as a team.

T.J. Howe paced Northern Tioga with a 72. Two of his teammates also carded in the 70s—Kyle Preston (77) and Matt Heitzenrater (78).

Bucky Aeppli

Bucky Aeppli led Wyalusing with an 84. Craig Fenton added an 86. Jeff Dorman, Preston Hitchcock and Matt Lee all scored 88. Drew Fogel shot a 92 as the sixth man.

Athens was led by Ryan Bardo's 73. Jon Dolinich paced Sayre with an 83. Steve Bray topped Wellsboro with a 91. Ralph Slyster led Mansfield with 84.

Chris Garges topped Northeast Bradford with 83. Other Panthers' scores included Joey Keefe (107), Jeremy Harvey (112). Kurt Benjamin (121) and Tyler Wheaton (142).

Avery Snell led Towanda with an 89. The other Black Knight scores included Mike Foster (107), Sean Mooney (110) and Derek Hugo (111).

Wyalusing now trails Northern Tioga by a half game, 19-2 to 18-2-1, in the NTL. Sayre is third with a 15-6 record, followed by Athens (13-7-1), Wellsboro (9-12), Northeast Bradford (3-17-1), Mansfield (3-18) and Towanda (2-18-1).

Tyoga Country Club

At Wellsboro, on Aug. 25, Wyalusing notched its initial first-place finish of the NTL season.

The Rams finished with a score of 432, followed by Sayre (439), Northern Tioga (444), Athens (457), Wellsboro (551) and Mansfield (568). Towanda and Northeast Bradford finished tied for last with 597.

Hitchcock led the Rams with an 83. Other Wyalusing scores included Fenton (85), Lee (87), Aeppli (87) and Fogel (90). Alex Ochse added a 99.

Northern Tioga's Howe was once again the medalist with a score of 74.

Snell paced Towanda with an 86. Other Black Knight scores included Mooney (107), Hugo (121), Foster (123) and Mitch Bacorn (160).

Garges led Northeast Bradford with a round of 85. Harvey (114), Keefe (125), Tyler Cook (136) and Benjamin (137) also competed for the Panthers. Wheaton shot a 153.

Bardo was Athens' top scorer with a 79. Other team leaders included Sayre's Dolinich (82), Wellsboro's Bray (101) and Mansfield's Slyster (86).
