Wyalusing Legion Baseball Opens Season
Wyalusing American Legion Post 534 began Bradford-Tioga League play on June 4, splitting a pair of games with Mansfield.
Later, Wyalusing swept a doubleheader at Canton.
Wyalusing will have a busy home slate early next week with five games over three days, including doubleheaders on Monday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 22, against Canton and Mansfield, respectively. It will also play a game with Towanda on Tuesday, June 21. The doubleheaders begin at 5 p.m., while Tuesday’s solo game begins at 6 p.m.
Splits at Mansfield
On June 4, Wyalusing won the first game, 12-2, and lost the nightcap, 11-1.
In the opener, Pete Champluvier and Logan Hitchcock led Wyalusing with three hits each. Champluvier belted a pair of doubles and drove in five runs, while Hitchcock had three singles.
Reggie Davis and Christian Carr had two hits each. Cody Pickett and Adam McCauley each doubled. Jordan Salsman added a single.
Hitchcock, Carr and Davis each had two RBIs. Cody Pickett drove in one run.
Carr started and worked four innings. He allowed one hit, while striking out four and walking one.
Andrew Pickett tossed two innings in relief, giving up two hits and four walks, while fanning four batters.
In the nightcap, Hitchcock’s RBI single in the first inning scored Joey Champluvier, who had opened the frame with a lead-off walk.
Carr, Pete Champluvier and Andrew Pickett also singled.
Trey Patton and Davis split time on the mound. Patton worked 2 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and six walks with one strikeout. Davis went 2 2/3 innings, surrendering two hits and two walks, while fanning one batter.
Sweeps at Mansfield
On June 8, Davis belted a two-run homer and singled in another run as Wyalusing defeated Canton, 6-2, in the first game of a doubleheader.
Wyalusing also won the nightcap, 1-0.
In the opener, Andrew Pickett added two RBIs on a single.
Carr had a pair of singles. Other hitters included Mitchell Pickett, Cody Pickett and Andrew Pickett.
Carr pitched three innings, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
McCauley yielded three hits and two walks in two innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Carr’s sacrifice scored Joey Champluvier, who led off the first inning with a single.
Kye Novak had Wyalusing’s only other hit—a second-inning single.
Patton pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball. He fanned six and walked four batters.
Hitchcock closed out the five-inning game.
