Youth Bowlers Qualify for State Scholarship Tournament

Four area youth bowlers have qualified for the Pepsi Championships to be held in Butler, PA, on May 21-22.

The state qualifiers were determined by district tournaments at selected sites and weekends.

In District 5, Bryn Zionkowski of Wyalusing and New Albany’s Haley McGroarty both qualified for the girls’ 11-under handicap division.

Zionkowski finished third with a total of 730. McGroarty was sixth, qualifying with a score of 712.

In District 8, Laceyville’s Macy Schillinger was fourth in the girls’ 11- under handicap tournament with a score of 750 to earn a state berth.

Austin Bonavita of Meshoppen qualified in the District 8 boys’ 11- under handicap tournament. He was 19th with a score of 711.

Others locally who competed in the District 5 tournaments with home town, division and score, included:

•Olivia Sharts, Sugar Run, girls’ 11-under, 669;

•Brittany Mader, Wyalusing, girls’ 11-under, 668;

•Devon Adams, Sugar Run, boys’ 11-under, 652;

•Domanick Otis, Wyalusing, boys’ 11-under, 652;

•Mason McGroarty, New Albany, boys’ 11-under, 645;

•Lucas Bahr, Dushore, boys’ 11-under, 640;

•Jared Zionkowski, Wyalusing, boys’ 11-under, 616;

•Miranda Mader, Wyalusing, girls’ 12-up, 663;

•Delta Frystak, Wyalusing, girls’ 12-up, 631;

•Breanna Felter, New Albany, girls’ 12-up, 594;

•Justin Riche, New Albany, boys’ 12-up, 704;

•Michael Armitage, Wyalusing, boys’ 12-up, 688, and

•Dylan Sample, New Albany, boys’ 12-up, 628.

In District 8, the local competitors included:

•Arianna DeGrote, Dimock, girls’ 11-under, 670;

•Nathaniel Sheldon, Meshoppen, boys’ 11-under, 590;

•Kyler DeGrote, Dimock, boys’ 12-up, 705, and

•Marshall McCarty, Meshoppen, boys’ 12-up, 644.
