Janet Townsend Janet R. Townsend, 80, of LaPlume, PA, passed away on Monday evening, July 12, 2004 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center after an illness. Born in Factoryville on June 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Vannie Lindsley Petersen. She was a graduate of Factoryville High School and a member of the Factoryville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family. Her husband, Wilfred H. Townsend, passed away in 1990. Surviving are two sons, James Townsend of Dalton and the Rev. Dr. William Townsend of PO Box 321, New Milford, former pastor of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, now serving as Spiritual Director at The Children’s Home in Binghamton, NY; three daughters, Carol Townsend, Barbara Kaub and Sharon North, all of Factoryville; a brother, Victor Petersen, Jr., Dalton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Aaron Supanick in July 2004 and a sister, Norma Watkins. The funeral services were held on Thursday, July 15 at the Anthony P. Litwin Funeral Home, Factoryville, with services by her son, the Rev. Dr. William Townsend. Interment was in the Evergreen Woodlawn Cemetery in Factoryville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Factoryville United Methodist Church, Factoryville, PA 18419. Agnes “Petey” Strubel Agnes Strubel, 89, of Montrose, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Wilbur’s Personal Care Home, Montrose. She was born in Montrose to the late Herbert and Mae Porter Walton. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; brother, Jack and sister, Florence Beck. Nieces and nephews, Mary Hart, Montrose, PA, Larry Walton, Naples, FL, Ralph and Penny Walton, Lebanon, PA, Mary Anne Garrett, Dover, DE, Tom Walton of Dover, DE, Dolores and Joe Vandergrift, Norristown, PA, cousins, and grand nieces and nephews survive Agnes. Agnes graduated from Montrose High School, Class of 1933. She did secretarial work, retiring from the Bendix Corp., South Montrose. She derived pleasure from her years leading age 10 Girl Scouts and was proud to have learned to snorkel at the age of 79. She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday July 26, at the Holy Name of Mary Church, with Father James R. Nash, officiating. Interment was held in the Holy Name of Mary Cemetery. Friends called on the family from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home. George Stethers George Stethers, 83, of Fairbanks, AK, passed away at Denali Center on Sunday, July 11, 2004. He was born Dec. 21, 1920 in Balibay, PA, the son of Roy and Eva (Clark) Stethers. He graduated from Camptown High School in 1938 and attended Penn State University for three years before entering the U.S. Air Force as a first l George moved to Fairbanks in May 1952 and retired from Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local #959 and a life member of Igloo 4 of Pioneers of Alaska. Throughout the years, George received several awards from the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce for beautification of the community for his lawn and flowerbeds. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Stethers; a sister-in-law, Louise Stethers and special friend, Donna Saxey of Fairbanks. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Winola Stethers of Wysox; a nephew, Richard Stethers of Wysox; a niece, Donna (Anthony) Barbuto of Springfield; two great nephews, Joseph and Tony Barbuto of Springfield; several cousins and family friends in Alaska. In regards to his wishes, there were no services. His ashes were spread at Murphy Dome, AK. Stanomir, M.D., 62, of Towanda, PA, passed away on Saturday morning, July 24, 2004 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, following a brief illness. Born April 18, 1942 in Bucharest, Romania, he was a son of Florica Filipescu Stanomir and the late Ion Stanomir. Vasile attended medical school in Romania and re-certified himself upon his emigration to the United States in 1982. He was a well-known physician in the area, specializing in anesthesiology, respiratory therapy and general clinical science. Dr. Stanomir joined the staff of Physician Care in Towanda in the summer of 1993 and practiced medicine in the Towanda and Wyalusing offices until the time of his death. Dr. Stanomir dedicated his life to the service of others. Dr. Stanomir fluently spoke several languages, enjoyed skiing, fishing, playing the piano and violin and dancing. He attended St. Joseph’s Romanian Orthodox Church in Hazleton. He was a member of the American Medical Association, People to People, Who’s Who List of Professionals, the Quarry Glen Club and was active in the Republican Party. Surviving are his daughter, Ana-Maria of Jackson Heights, NY; his son, Alexander and his wife, Diana Julia of Germany; his granddaughter, Julia Alexandra of Germany; his mother, Florica of Romania and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ion (John) in 1972 and by his brother, Dinu in 1989. The family received friends on Monday, July 26 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral and committal services were held at the conclusion of the calling hours on Monday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment services were held on Wednesday in St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, NY. Spence, age 81, of Mildred, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Highlands in Laporte, PA. Irene was born in Edwardsville on April 20, 1923, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riscavage. She graduated from high school in Edwardsville and worked as a waitress and in several silk mills and later retired from the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. of Mildred. She married John (Jack) Spence of Mildred on June 18, 1977. Jack predeceased her on Jan. 14, 1998. Irene was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Judy Newhart, Kingston and John J. Newhart; a daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Joe Biniek, Pasadena, MD; a sister, Helen Jerostic, Luzerne; stepsons and spouses, David and JoAnn Spence, Norfolk, NE, Larry and Sandy Spence, Norfolk, NE; a stepdaughter and spouse, Jacqueline and Terry Avery, Ladoga, IN; a brother-in-law, James Spence, Mildred; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning, July 29th at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Bert S. Mary McGlothlin Mary Lu McGlothlin, 65, of Hillsgrove passed away at her home on July 22, 2004, with her family at her side. Lu was born Nov. 8, 1938 in Williamsport, the daughter of Chester S. and Connie Sincavage Siegel. She attended Sullivan County schools, graduating from Turnpike High School in Mildred, a member of the Class of 1956. Some of her fondest early memories were accompanying her father on his forestry patrols near Ricketts Glen and Keystone Observatory. Lu served in the U. S. Air Force, where she met her loving husband, Ray (Mac) McGlothlin. They raised two children, Chuck and Vikki, in several locati After Mac retired from the Air Force, they settled back to familiar territory for Lu. Both accepted positions as caretakers for the Little League Summer Camp at Green Acres in Hillsgrove, where they have dedicated themselves to countless children from around the world for the last 18 years. Lu and Mac sought out ways to support their local communities. Both started with taking EMT Basic Classes, where they have been immersed in the local EMS System ever since, making them both one of the most recognized EMS Teams in the Lycoming, Tioga and Sullivan EMS Council Region. Lu had been the Ambulance Captain of the Hillsgrove VFC Ambulance, Fire Company Secretary, a primary instructor for every EMT and First Responder Class in Sullivan County for over 10 years. She was an active EMT Evaluator in the LTS Region, president of the Sullivan County EMS Council, member of the LTS Regional Advisory Committee, active CISM Team member, served as AED Coordinator for the Hillsgrove VFC, Hillsgrove Bureau of Forestry and World’s End State Park and served as the Sullivan County Chief Deputy Coroner since January of 2000. She coordinated all continuing education activities for the Hillsgrove VFC and was often requested to instruct for other local EMS Services. She was recently awarded the Statewide George Morekirk, MD Senior Volunteer of the Year Award and was a past recipient of the Sullivan County EMS Instructor of the Year, Sullivan County Volunteer of the Year, Sullivan County EMT of the Year and received the 2004 Sullivan County Outstanding Service Award. She was involved in her church and other civic organizations, and still found time to be a tremendous and loyal friend and confidante to many close to her. Survivors include her husband, Mac McGlothlin, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Laura McGlothlin, Rockledge, FL; a daughter, Vikki McGlothlin, Rockledge, FL; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jane and Gerald Doyle, Mildred; an uncle, Stephen Chuba, Girardville; an aunt, Elva Sincavage, Girardville; a niece and a nephew and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, David Siegel, in 1947. A memorial service was held at the Hillsgrove Union Church on Saturday, July 24 at 5 p.m., with Pastor John Staje, officiating. Friends called at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA. Andrew Decker Andrew Decker, age 95, of Lopez, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2004. Andy was born on Nov. 30, 1908 in Fairmont, WV, a son of Stephen and Anna Sasala Decker. He attended local schools and married Julia Patrician of Mildred on Oct. 19, 1937. She predeceased him on Aug. 13, 2002. Andy and Julia owned and operated Deckers’ Tavern in Lopez for many years before retiring in 1969. Andy also worked as a mail carrier, and for Bliss Coal Company, and then as a ranger for Ricketts Glen State Park, from which he retired. He was also an avid gardener and he enjoyed entertaining his friends with magic tricks. Andy was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Lopez. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Andrew S. Decker, Lopez, Robert and Donna Decker, Levittown; two daughters and son-in-law, Sister Janet Decker O.S.B.M., Wilkes-Barre, Elaine and Jerry Gehman, Sellersville; a brother-in-law and spouse, Michael and Flora Arenda, Mildred; four grandchildren, Robert Decker, Jr., Lisa Decker, Lori Gehman, Vanessa Gehman; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John S., Michael and Stephen; by his sisters, Mary North, Anna McGee and Catherine Decker. Dean Homer Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. James Hayer, pastor of St. Mary’s Byzantine Church, Wilkes-Barre, presiding. Interment was in SS. Peter and Paul’s Byzantine Cemetery, Lopez. Friends called on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water Street, Dushore. There was a Parastas Service at 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Clifford Bennett Clifford L. Bennett, 78, of Rushville, PA went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Wilson Regional Medical Center, Johnson City, NY, after a courageous battle with cancer. Clifford married Mildred Atkinson, May 11, 1946. In 1948, they purchased the home farm from his parents. Together, they worked side by side and built Mil-Cliff Farms to what it is today. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and farmer. His passion was his family and his work. He will be deeply missed by all. Clifford farmed until his recent retirement in March of 2002 and drove school bus for Elk Lake School District for 25 years. He was a member of the Rushville Presbyterian Church where he served many years as a trustee and elder. He also was a member of LeRaysville Lodge #471 F & AM and the Fairdale Grange #1157. He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Bennett; a daughter, Debra Bennett Hassick; his parents, George and Jessie [Baldwin] Bennett and one brother, Kenneth Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mildred [Atkinson] Bennett; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Jeanne Bennett, Towanda, Rodney Bennett, Floral City, FL, Gary Bennett and fiancée, Jen Proof, Rushville; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Halaquist, Windsor, NY, 13 grandchildren, Theresa [Bennett] Fulmer, Anthony, Holly Jo, Brittany and Bethany Bennett, Shawn, Wendell and Vicki Bennett, Scott, Michelle and Jason Hassick, Dana and Tenley Halaquist, six great-grandchildren, one sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Griffith Rees, Rochester, MN and a very special cousin and wife, Clifton and Peggy Bennett, Camptown and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth “Betty” Schroth, of Wyalusing, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home, following a brief illness. She was born in LeRoy, PA, a daughter of the late Perley B. and Hazel Donovan Morse and was a lifetime resident of Wyalusing. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Wyalusing Area School District as an assistant nurse. On Nov. 3, 1984, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles G. Schroth. Betty was a member of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, its women’s Fidelis Class and served on many committees within the church. She was a member of the Towanda Rod & Gun Club, past President Emeritus of the Wyalusing Museum, a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and being in the out-of-doors. Mrs. Schroth was a great historian and wrote many articles for the Rocket-Courier. She leaves surviving her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Robert Burns of Wyalusing; two brothers, Milton Perley Morse of Camptown and J. Daniel Morse of Clarks Summit; a sister-in-law, Joyce Schroth of Bainbridge, NY; her grandchildren, Lori and Frank Holdren, Katie and Jeff Edsell, John Frederick, Robyn and Matt Kennedy and Sara Welles, and by six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Welles on Dec. 7, 1979. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 11 a.m., in the Wyalusing Cemetery, with the Rev. Barry Ballard and the Rev. Norman Robinson, pastors, officiating. Friends and family called on Wednesday evening, July 21 at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church Street, Wyalusing, from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a local charity in Mrs. Schroth’s memory. G. Arline Baker Mrs. G. Arline Baker, age 84, of 19 Cruver Court, Laceyville, PA (North Flat), passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2004 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte. She was born in Auburn Four Corners on Sept. 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel Henry Chamberlin. She was the wife of John Baker, who passed away on June 20, 1974. Mrs. Baker was employed by American Meter in Wyalusing, Rynveld’s in New Albany and retired from the A.J. Shoe Factory in Tunkhannock. She was a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #534, Wyalusing, also serving as a past District President of Bradford, Potter and Tioga Council; a charter member of the 8 & 40 Salon of Bradford, Potter and Tioga. She was a member of the Moose Lodge of Tunkhannock and was a member of the Wyalusing Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Rae and Melton Armitage, Laceyville, Donna and Skip Driggs, Tunkhannock and Linda Sigman of Charleston, WV; a sister, Wanda Wilson of Vestal, NY; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Sigman; a brother, Cleon Chamberlin and two sisters, Evelyn Cobb and Beva Baker. Funeral and committal services will be held on Friday, July 23 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Joe Billingsley of the Mehoopany Baptist Church, officiating. Lila Kinner Mrs. Lila Irene “Sue” Kinner, age 79, of Terry Township, Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at The Highlands in Laporte. Sue was born in Terrytown on April 2, 1925, a daughter of the late William and Lillie Springer Johnson. She graduated from Wyalusing High School, a member of the Class of 1943. She was married to William M. Kinner, Jr. of Wyalusing for 55 years. Bill pred Sue was a homemaker and a devoted spouse, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She really enjoyed fishing and loved to play cards. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Julie Kinner of Dushore, Randy and Flo Kinner of Wyalusing, Timothy and Sharon Kinner of Wyalusing; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Gary Adams of Wyalusing, Linda and Dorland Porter of New Albany, Darlene and Eddie Newton of Wyalusing, Vicki and Monte Kellogg of New Albany; a stepson and spouse, Francis and Pam Kinner of Monroeton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Algy and Marion Johnson of Tioga, PA, Stanley and Gerry Johnson of Tioga, PA; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie VanCampen of Texas, Doris and Robert Bahr of Shade Gap, PA; sisters-in-law, Iva Johnson and Alice Teel of Wyalusing and Alberta Decker of Delaware; brothers-in-law, Harry Kinner of Smithport, PA and Robert Kinner of Troy; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Sheldon Johnson, Nobel Johnson, Ralph Johnson and Paul Johnson and three sisters, Mildred Johnson, all of Wyalusing, Jesse Vanderpool of Monroeton and Florence Jenkins of Elmira, and a granddaughter, Aspen Marie Kinner. Funeral services were held Friday, July 16 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing. Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Overton, officiated. Powers, 75, of Wyalusing RR 2 (Terrytown) passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at The Highlands Care Center in Laporte. Born July 18, 1928 in Towanda, he was the son of the late Dallas and Helen Ennis Powers. LaVerne was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1948, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army in Korea. LaVerne was employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda for six years and was later employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 30 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a life member of Wyalusing A LaVerne will be remembered by his family and friends for his very mild-mannered personality. Surviving are: four stepchildren, Linda Stanton and her husband, Michael Stanton of Terrytown, Joyce Pruyne and her husband, Robert Pruyne of Athens, Albert Vanderpool and his wife, Janice Vanderpool of Towanda RR 4 and Robert Vanderpool and his wife, Mabel Vanderpool of Wyalusing; 17 step-grandchildren; 24 step-grand-grandchildren; his brother, James Powers and his wife, Sally Powers of Towanda RR 4; his sister, Harriett Wells and her husband, David Wells of Endwell, NY; his brother-in-law, Herbert Fox of Towanda RR 2; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his canine companion, “Fritz.” In addition to his parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Mae God Vanderpool Powers in December 1977 and his sister, Virginia E. Powers Fox on Jan. 11, 2004. The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with pastor Tim Geiger, assistant pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Towanda, officiating. Interment was in the Terrytown Cemetery, Terry Twp., with Wyalusing American Legion Post #534 according full military honors. Powers’s memory. Lester S. Hollinger Lester S. Hollinger, 90, a Valparaiso resident for the past two years, formerly of Bedford, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center. He was born Dec. 9, 1913 in Manheim, the son of Samuel and Daisy (Stoner) Hollinger. On June 7, 1941 in Red Line, he married Dorothy Grove, who preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1966. Survivors include two children, Ellen Wombwell of Valparaiso and David Hollinger of Canton, MS; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Fleming, Heather Trager, Christopher and Michael Hollinger and three great-grandchildren. He received a Bachelor of Science from Millersville College and a Master of Science from Columbia University. He was a captain in the United States Army In 1961, he received the New Jersey Teacher of the Year Award for Excellence in teaching from Princeton University. He received the Engineering Society Award from Rutgers University and served as coordinator for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance since 1978. He was invited to teach summer school at Rutgers and North Carolina State Universities and was past president of the New Jersey Science Teachers’ Association. He was a charter and life member of the Bedford Area Senior Citizens’ Association and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Valparaiso and Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, with the Rev. Jerry Castleman, officiating. Cremation followed at Angelcrest Crematory at Moeller Funeral Home. Visitation was on Wednesday at the church. Burial of ashes took place on Saturday, July 17 at Ruhl’s Cemetery in Manheim. Lindsay, Jr., 66, of Maine, NY, passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold H., Sr. and Julia Lindsay. Harold was a retired IBM employee with 37 years of service, and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Endicott Lodge #1977. He was an avid race fan and a longtime member of the SNYR-SCCA. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV. He is survived by his wife, the former Janice Bodnar, Maine, NY; four sons and two daughters-in-law, William and Robbin Lindsay, Waldorf, MD, Robert Lindsay, Vestal, Harold B. Gladys Richmond Gladys K. Richmond, age 94, of Hillsgrove, PA, formerly of Telford, PA, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Saturday evening, July 17, 2004. Gladys was born in Telford on Jan. 26, 1910, a daughter of the late Harry Z. and Lizzie Kulp Wampole. Gladys obtained her teaching degree and taught Elementary Education at the Telford School until her marriage to Dr. George Lauber Richmond, D.D.S. He predeceased her in 1972. Gladys was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Telford and taught Sunday School for 25 years. She also was a member of the Women’s Fellowship Society. She enjoyed bowling and was a charter member of the Indian Valley Country Club in Telford. She was very proud, that at the age of 78, she shot a hole-in-one on the 16th hole of the golf course. She moved to Sullivan County in 2000. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Lois Richmond, Hillsgrove; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and William Yerk, Austin, TX, Brenda and Rodney Reichley, Harleysville; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was born April 15, 1925 and grew up in Friendsville. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Emma DeMann; brothers, Robert, William and Stephen; sisters, Ruth, Helen and Rosemary; an infant daughter in 1953 and a grandson, Ian Walter in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice (Hawkings); daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Terry Edsall, Ocala, FL and JoAnn and Perry Walter, Warren Township; a granddaughter, Karalyn Walter. Stephanie Neufer Stephanie Neufer, age 86, of Lopez, PA passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 16, 2004, with her loving family at her side. Stefie was born Dec. 31, 1917 in Lopez, a daughter of the late Theodore and Anne Rusin Hubiak. She attended local schools and married Carl Larue (Sparky) Neufer of Muncy on July 17, 1940. Sparky predeceased her on March 1, 1967. Stefie worked at the former Weldon Mfg. Co. of Lopez and retired from the Dushore Lingerie in Dushore in 1985. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their every visit. Stefie was a very active member of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church in Lopez and was the recording secretary for the church for many years. She was also active with the church choir. Stefie was a member of the Russian Brother Organization and a member of the I.L.G.W.U. Local #306. She participated in all church activities and especially enjoyed making pierogies at the church hall. Ruth Weiler Ruth Weiler, age 95, passed away on July 15, 2004 at the Ephrata Manor Nursing Home, Ephrata, PA surrounded by her family. Surviving are one daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Anthony Liberatore of Lancaster; one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Dolores Weiler of Dushore; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and three step great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester R. Weiler. Ross Eugene W. Ross, 89, of Harford, PA died on Monday, July 12, 2004 at home. Born Oct. 12, 1914 in LeRaysville, he was the son of the late Fred C. and Elsie [Reynolds] Ross. He married Eleanor Tingley Ross on July 13, 1943. She survives him. He was a self-employed truckdriver when he retired. He was also manager of the Towanda Airport in the 1940s and owned and operated Ross Motors in Laceyville in the early 1950s. He was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps in Buckhannon, WV. He also was an avid bowler. Eugene was greatly loved by all of his family and will be dearly missed. Howell Nonnemacher Howell C. “Chip” Nonnemacher, 51, of Jenningsville, PA, died suddenly on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at his residence. Born Feb. 19, 1953 in Meshoppen, he was a son of Amy Stevens Nonnemacher of Jenningsville and the late Howell H. Nonnemacher. He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1971 and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Rita Kelly Rita Elizabeth Kelly, age 76, of Mildred, PA passed away Thursday morning, July 8, 2004 after a courageous battle with diabetes. Rita was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Mildred, daughter of the late Anthony and Isabella Rocelle Kelly (Celi). Rita graduated from the Cherry Township High School, a member of the Class of 1947. Rita was employed by the former Endicott-Johnson Shoe Manufacturing Company of Mildred, from which she retired after 40 years of service. She enjoyed her work, as well as her special friends and neighbors, Jerome and Becky Pedro. She loved life, her family and the New York Yankees. Rita was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred and a lifetime member of the McDermott Post #452 American Legion Auxiliary. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice. Lyman Emerick Lyman L. Emerick, age 84, died at Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda on Thursday, July 8, 2004. Lyman was born on Aug. 8, 1919 in Coal Township, Northumberland County, PA, the son of Irvin H. and Blanche Emerick. After his marriage to Alice (Betty) Cameron, on Aug. 1, 1941, he moved to Utica, NY and later in the late 1940s, he and Betty joined his parents on their farm on Lime Hill. Lyman worked at several occupations during his life, including dairy farming, commercial poultry raising, sales representative for Central Petroleum Company and was a union plasterer and cement finisher. Until his full retirement, he worked part-time for the Area Agency on Aging. Lyman was preceded in death by his father, Irvin in 1968; his wife, Betty in 1984; his mother, Blanche in 1997 and a brother, Gilbert, who died in infancy. He is survived locally by his cousins, Vivian Yasharian of Towanda, Dale Yasharian and Glen Yasharian of Lime Hill and by two uncles, Edward Weaver of Hummelstown and Gilbert Weaver of York; a brother-in-law, Fred VanLiew of Hopewell, NJ and several nieces and nephews. Ball, formerly of 104 Ward Ave., Towanda, PA, passed away Sunday evening, July 11, 2004 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, North Towanda Township. Born Jan. 23, 1908 in Merryall, Wyalusing Township, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Sarah Hendershot Decker. On Feb. 10, 1926, she married Alfred J. Ball. Mr. and Mrs. Ball resided in Rome for many years and in 1959, moved to Towanda to make their home. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 2, 1988. Ruth was employed for many years by the St. Agnes School in Towanda. Ruth dedicated her later years to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John and Shirley Ball of Towanda; a daughter, Bertina Chilson of Wysox RR2; a daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Albert Chilson of Towanda RR2; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Albright, 90, of Sugar Run, Bradford County, PA, formerly of Orefield and Allentown, died on Monday, July 5, 2004 at her home. She was the widow of Dr. Dill J. Albright, Jr., who died in 1979. A graduate of the former Allentown Hospital School of nursing, she was a registered nurse, assisting her husband in his general practice in Orefield from 1945-1965. Previously, she was head nurse and night supervisor for the former Allentown Hospital for eight years. After retirement, she worked as an office manager for Camp Netimus, Inc., which is operated by her daughter and son-in-law in Milford. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late William R. and Sue P. (Kline) Heckert. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown. She was an associate member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Dushore, and was a former member of Jordan United Church of Christ, Walberts. She was a past worthy matron of Slatington Chapter 458, Order of the Eastern Star. He was born on Aug. 29, 1964 in Towanda, a son of Wayne L., Sr. and Ruth A. Gunther Fulmer. He has been a resident of the Dushore area for three and one-half years, having moved from Elysburg. His memberships included the White Ash Association and H.O.G. (Harleys Owner Group). He had attended the Laporte United Methodist Church. Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent in the out of doors. Lynn Sayman Lynn Edward Sayman, 53, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004 after a long illness. A former resident of Wyalusing, he was born on March 8, 1951, a son of the late Roy Edward Sayman and Agnes Ruth Sayman. He attended school in Windsor, NY and served in the military. Lynn enjoyed hunting and spending time with family and friends. He was and will be missed and loved by many who had the privilege of knowing this special man. She owned and operated Creative Hair Design on Taft Avenue in Endicott, NY. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Sharon loved life and was always able to see the brighter side of things. She was very witty, funny, serious and just a joy to be around. Sharon was loved very much by her sisters and her extended family and will be missed deeply by all. Arlene Sincavage, age 62, of Meshoppen, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She was born in Starrucca, Susquehanna County, on Feb. 3, 1942, daughter of the late Elmer J. Sincavage, who passed away on May 17, 1989. Mrs. Sincavage was a graduate of the Susquehanna Community High School. For many years, she was employed by Nepp Wire in Meshoppen and later for Creavey Seal in Waymart. Mrs. Sincavage retired in Sept. 2003. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Tunkhannock for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Tyre and Yvonne Sincavish, Nicholson; six daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey Sincavage, Joyce and Raymond Ryce, Lori Sincavage and friend, Joe McLeer and Janet Sincavage, all of Meshoppen, Sandra and John Palmer of Lake Winola, Mary Lou Sincavage of White Sulphur Springs, WV; a brother, Donald Haynes of Detroit, MI; four sisters, Jean Keesler of East Branch, NY, Gladys Cudo, Great Bend, Emma Jean Spry of Dingman’s Ferry and Mary Lou Betts of Susquehanna; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Russick, 68, of Rush, PA, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at his residence. Born Oct. 27, 1935 in Lime Hill, Bradford County, he was the son of the late Joseph and the late Ruth H. Russick. In August, he would have been married 43 years to Betty Lou [nee Stanton]. He was a graduate of Wyalusing High School and was employed by Union Local #542, Wilkes-Barre, as a heavy equipment operator. He was husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many and enjoyed hunting, fishing, puttering with his personal backhoe and watching his grandchildren play sports. In addition to his wife, survivors include: four daughters and sons-in-law: Darlene and Richard Salsman of Meshoppen, Gaylene and Mark Mowry Dodge of Meshoppen, Penny and Kevin Stockholm of Montrose, Dixie Casselbury and John Krieg of Meshoppen; one son and daughter-in-law, Max, Jr. and Karen Russick of Rushville; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Benjamin of Wyalusing and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Paul and Jack Russick, and a granddaughter, Brandi Johnson Stockholm, all predeceased him. Jessie Oliver Mrs. Jessie Oliver, age 90, of RR2, Meshoppen, PA, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 2004 at Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock. Born in Parsons on Aug. 18, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Evelyn Vaow Yale. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Prevost in 1936 and her second husband, Stanley Oliver in 1971. She was a housewife and homemaker for her husbands and their families. Mrs. Oliver was a long-time member of the Russell Hill United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening and baking, but mostly she enjoyed cooking and being with her family. She is survived by her daughter, N. Jean Jayne of Meshoppen and her son, S. Robert (Bob) Oliver of Meshoppen. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Joseph Lynch, Joseph Cook Lynch, age 78, of Dushore, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the home of his son, Vincent Lynch, 107 Simsbury Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850, with his family by his side. Joe was born in Dushore on July 9, 1925, a son of the late Vincent Joseph and Emma Cook Lynch. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the Class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1943 and served in the Philippines Campaign and also in Korea. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in March Joe was a prominent Sullivan County businessman. He owned and operated North Branch Trucking Company in the early 1950’s. He and Joseph F. Obert of Dushore purchased the former Cain’s Dairy, which he operated as Dushore Dairy from 1956 until 1993. Joe bottled milk and delivered dairy products, ice cream and frozen foods throughout Sullivan and parts of Bradford and Lycoming Counties. He was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church, the Dushore Lions Club, American Legion Loyalsock Post #996 and the Dushore Fire Company. He was a scoutmaster for the Dushore Boy Scout troop and a continuing contributor to Troop 48. He also coached Little League Baseball. He was a long time member of the Dushore Borough Council. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his son, Captain Vincent J. Lynch, U.S. Navy (Ret.) and his wife, Susan of Ithaca, NY; his daughter, Mary Margaret and her husband, Colonel Robert T. Guglielmi, U.S. Army of Fort Drum, NY; five grandchildren, Amanda, Patrick and Sarah Lynch and Keith and Bret Guglielmi; a sister and brother-in-law: Mary and J. Lockwood, 46, of North Orwell, PA, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at his home. Pat was born on Aug. 5, 1957 in Piscataway, NJ, a son of Mary Helen (Dillon) and the late William Francis Lockwood. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy from 1981-1989 where he For many years, Pat served Bradford and Sullivan Counties as a food inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He enjoyed restoring old cars and riding motorcycles, although his greatest enjoyment was seeing his children compete at sporting events. In addition to his mother, Mary Helen Lockwood of Rome, he is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Russell) Lockwood; his sons, Dillon and Preston; a daughter, Roxanne, all at home; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Peggy Lockwood of Michigan, James Lockwood of California, Chris Lockwood of Colorado, Ed and Judy Lockwood of Florida; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Karl Loewenberg, Cecelia and Jeff Abrams, Elizabeth and John Troxler, all of Pennsylvania; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Preston and Shirley Russell; brothers-in-law, Doug and his wife, Shawn Russell, Patrick Russell and special friend, Bridgett, all of LeRaysville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Lockwood. Gladys Henning Gladys Sherwood Henning, 88, of Mehoopany, PA, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 25, 2004 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Philip Henning. Born on Sept. 12, 1915 in Tunkhannock, she was the daughter of the late A. W. and Effie Ross Sherwood. Gladys was a 1933 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and attended Elmira College. Gladys was a member of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mehoopany Women’s Club, Tunkhannock Senior Citizens and Tyler Hospital Auxiliary. Gladys especially enjoyed her daily contacts with endearing friends and cherished family. Life along the Susquehanna River brought her many pleasures. Cobb, age 83, of LeRaysville, PA, passed away on Monday evening, June 28, 2004 at the Endless Mountains Health Care in Montrose, PA. He was born on March 10, 1921, in Silvara, a son of the late Paul and Blanche Brotzman Cobb. He was a graduate of LeRaysville High School, Class of 1940. On Nov. 1, 1944, James married the former Eleanor Bennett and had celebrated 59 years of marriage. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was a self-employed farmer and had spent his lifetime engaged in farming the family dairy farm. Mr. Cobb was a charter member of the Northeast Bradford Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed his time spent hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eleanor, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Daryl W. and Jodi Cobb of New Castle; a brother, Howard Cobb of West Auburn; two grandchildren, Rocky Grim and Valerie Grim and by two great-grandchildren, Rocky Grim, III and Anthony Pavelko. Nettie Canfield Mrs. Nettie Whipple Canfield, age 88, of the Highlands Care Center in Laporte, PA, passed away on Sunday evening, June 27, 2004 at the Highlands. She was formerly of Athens and Meshoppen. Nettie was born in Laceyville on April 23, 1916, daughter of the late Earl J. and Myrtle Brotzman Whipple. She was a graduate of Laceyville High School, Class of 1934. She was married to Frederick A. Canfield, June 24, 1936. They had their married life together in the Meshoppen area until her husband passed away on Feb. 12, 1975. She assisted her husband on working of their farm. She had also been employed as a seamstress in Meshoppen, and was later a cook at Hitchcock’s Restaurant in Laceyville. While in the Meshoppen area, she was an active member of the South Auburn United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a Sunday School teacher and a member of the WSCS. While in the Athens area, after moving there in 1983, she became a member of the Athens United Methodist Church. Nettie was a 50-year member of the South Auburn Grange #1188 and a past member of the Rebekah Lodge of Laceyville. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Joseph Colegrove of Laceyville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracey and Janet Canfield of Meshoppen and Cleon and Patricia Canfield of Laceyville; three sisters, Mrs. Lelia Carpenter of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Betty Bishop of Springville and Mrs. Earline Dockins of Alta, GA; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Whipple, LeRoy Whipple and Ora Whipple and a sister, Hazel Baldwin Stanley. Pauline Brandstettner Mrs. Pauline Brandstettner, age 97, of Lacey St., Laceyville, PA, passed away on Friday morning, June 25, 2004 at the Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock, where she had been a resident for the last two years. She was born in Silvara on May 4, 1907, daughter of the late Laverne L. and Blanche Barnes Ervin. Mrs. Brandstettner was a graduate of the Laceyville High School, Class of 1925, after which she became a homemaker for her family. She was a long-time member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church and was also a member of the DAR. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Clifford Pero, Endwell, NY; two grandsons, Bruce and Sue Pero, Chenango Bridge, NY and Stephen Pero of Endwell, NY; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Karley Pero of Chenango Bridge, NY; four nieces and one nephew. Bowman, age 73, of RR2, Box 130, Meshoppen, PA passed away on Friday afternoon, June 25, 2004 at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock. He was born in Laceyville on April 5, 1931, son of the late Leon and Ophelia Hendershot Bowman. Bob was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, the former Gladys R. Roberts, who passed away on Nov. 3, 2001. They had been married for 51 years. Bob was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, Class of 1950. After graduation, he was a self-employed dairy farmer in South Auburn for many years. He was also employed by the Cornell family in Laceyville, working at Cornell Manufacturing Plant and also their Indian Hill Charcoal Plant. In later years, he was a building contractor in the Wyoming, Bradford and Susquehanna County areas, part owner, along with Charlie Vanderpool, working as Bowman and Vanderpool Construction. He was a member of Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, an active member of the Franklin Lodge #263 F&AM of Laceyville, where he was a Past Master in 1979; he was also lodge secretary for many years and was the present lodge treasurer. Bob was a past member of the Irem Temple Shrine in Dallas and a past member of the Scranton Consistory. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Meshoppen Chapter #70; a life member of the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club, a past member of the Good Will Fire Co., Laceyville, along with being a PA State Fire Police member. Bob was manager of the Meshoppen Men’s Baseball Team and coach of the Laceyville Teener and Little League teams for many years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. In his later years, he very much enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are a son and his wife, Robert (Butch) and Yong Bowman of Clifton Park, NY; five daughters and their husbands, Diana and Terry Wells of Ephrata, Terrie and Doug Taylor of Laceyville, Patricia and Nelson Brackbill of Troy, Alison and Ken Reaves of Meshoppen and Gretchen and Brian Martin of Bowmansville; a brother, Arden Bowman of Laceyville; four sisters-in-law; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Born in Mehoopany, Dec 25, 1919, he was one of Ed was an avid carpenter, outdoorsman and golfer. He spent his career as a building materials salesman, winning many salesmanship awards. He was a veteran of WWII, serving three years in the Army Signal Corps. Ed was a member of the Rotary Club and the Elks. He just recently received his 50-year membership pin from the Masons. Ed is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Edith; one brother, James of Melbourne, FL, three sisters, Gertrude Whipple of Wyalusing, Ruth Eberlin of Melbourne, FL and Doris (Bill) Madill of Monroeton; his children, Edward M. Houser, age 83, of RR3, Box 158-A, Meshoppen, PA, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004 at his home in Auburn Township, Susquehanna County, PA. He was born in Fredericksburg, TX on May 14, 1921, the son of Helen Russell Houser. Mr. Houser served his country during World War II, as a member of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater. Fry, 73, of 713 Chippewa Road, Muncy, PA, died on Friday, June 18, 2004 at the Muncy Valley Hospital. He and his wife, the former Marjorie Bieber, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on April 17. Born Nov. 18, 1930 in Muncy Township, he was a son of Narber P. and Beatrice Robb Fry. Earl, a lifetime dairy farmer, also hauled milk for area farmers. He was a member of the Pennsdale United Methodist Church, the Pennsylvania Farmers Association and the Ticklish Rock Hunting Club. Robert Elliott, Sr. Robert “Jack” Jackson Elliott, Sr., age 68, of Cassia, FL, died on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the James Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL. Born in Philadelphia on May 1, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert Fuller Elliott and Helen Stevens Elliott Reinhart. After graduating from Wyalusing High School in 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 to 1965. After the service, he and his family moved from Phil He belonged to the Antique Truck Historical Society and had just returned from their annual meeting and truck show in California, which he had been very happy to attend. He was a huge fan of NASCAR racing and enjoyed fishing with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, especially on race day. Edward was raised in the Wyalusing area and has lived with his sister, Anna and Paul Meas for the last 30 years in New Albany. Harry Epler Harry Epler, age 87, of New Albany, PA, passed away on Thursday morning, June 10, 2004 at his home, following a lingering illness. He was born on Jan. 19, 1917 in Eldridgeville, Sullivan County, a son of the late Arthur and Rebecca Keeney Epler. He was a graduate of New Albany High School, Class of 1936. On April 3, 1938, he married the former Mary Bleiler. She preceded him in death in 1991. Harry started the Epler Family Farm in New Albany in 1944, and was actively engaged in farming until December 2003, when he was forced to retire due to health reasons. In his early years, he was employed by the coal mines of Forksville and Hillsgrove. Prior to operating his own dairy farm, he was employed by Kennedy Valve, in Elmira, NY. Howard Hugo Howard L. “Mike” Hugo, age 73, of New Albany, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2004 in the Highland Care Center of Laporte. Mike was born June 17, 1930 in New Albany, a son of the late Ivan and Helen Vogel Hugo. He was a 1948 graduate of New Albany High School. After graduating, he worked with his father in the family-owned feed mill. He retired from Sylvania of Towanda in 1992, after 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he worked once again with his father in the feed mill until its closing in 1998. Through the 1960s, he was very active in the New Albany Fire Department, serving for many years as chief. Mike was always very community minded, serving as president of the borough council and spent many nights walking the water lines with John Hanzok, looking for leaks. A lot of people came to rely on him for help and he will be missed by the community of New Albany. In his spare time, he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, raising beef cattle and horses on his farm, hunting and fishing. Thompson, age 70, of 212 Maple Rd., Wilkes-Barre, PA, where he lived with his daughter, passed away at the Heritage House in Wilkes-Barre early Sunday morning, June 6, 2004. Charlie formerly lived in South Auburn for 25 years. Born in Bronx, NY on July 22, 1933, he was the son of the late Robert and Anna Weber Thompson. Charlie was the husband of the former Janet M. McMicken Thompson, who passed away on May 25, 2003. Growing up in New York City, he was a graduate of the Flushing High School, Queens, NY, Class of 1952. After graduation in 1952, he entered the United States Navy, serving his country until 1956 in Korea, the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands. After the service, he lived in St. Petersburg, FL, employed as a police officer for the St. Petersburg Police Department for 20 years, from 1959 until 1979. After his retirement from the police department, he and his wife moved to South Auburn where they lived near the McMicken family homestead for the next 25 years. Charlie was employed at the Susquehanna County Jail in Montrose for nine years, retiring in 1999. After his wife’s death, he became very ill, and he had to move into the residence with his daughter and her family. He was a member of St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen. Charlie was also an active member of the South Auburn Grange #1188 and a member of the Retired Police Association of St. Petersburg, FL. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and visiting with his friends and relatives. Born Nov. 24, 1916 in Montrose, she was the daughter of the late Minor and Clara [Wilbur] Henry, Sr. Mrs. Miller married Wayne W. Miller, who predeceased her in death in January of 1980. She ran a previous Girls Club in the Fairdale area. She also loved reading and crocheting. Born Sept. 5, 1907 in Evergreen, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mattie Covey Corson. Thelma was a graduate of New Albany High School and of Bloomsburg Normal School. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Ridgebury Township, at the Monroe Franklin Elementary School, Wyalusing Elementary School and the Special Education Class at the J. Andrew Morrow Elementary School in Towanda. Thelma continued her education at Mansfield and Penn State Universities until her retirement in 1966. Thelma was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda, the 20th Century Club and the Pennsylvania Retired Teacher’s Association. Daly R.N., age 97, formerly of Mildred, PA. and Scottsdale, AZ. passed away on May 25, 2004. She was born in Mildred on June 15, 1906, a daughter of the late John and Prudence McDonald Daly. Clara graduated as a Registered Nurse, in 1932 from the Binghamton State Hospital School of Nursing. She obtained her B.S. from Syracuse University in 1959 and her M.P.H. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a Public Heath Nurse for the State of New York in Dansville, NY and also Albany, NY, and the State of Arizona Dept. of Public Health from 1966 to 1976. She served in the US Peace Corps in Montserrat, West Indies from 1976 to 1979. She resided in Albany, NY until moving to Scottsdale. Harold Bush Harold B. “Bushy” Bush, age 76, a well-known resident of Standing Stone, Wysox Township, PA, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2004 at the Skilled Nursing Unit, Memorial Hospital, Towanda, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Bush was born on Nov. 2, 1927 at the Methodist parsonage in Durell to the late Guy Carlton and Grace (Wallace) Bush. He was the beloved husband of the former Eloise Chaffee. A lifelong resident of Standing Stone, he had a prosperous career in business, having worked as a youngster in his father’s general store and later at the Towanda Western Auto store as a part-time employee for over 30 years. Mr. Bush retired in 1982 from GTE Sylvania, where he had been employed for 30 years as an accountant, eventually becoming accounting manager of the engineering division. Bushy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and served as a trumpeter with the 298th Army Band. His travels took him all over Germany, France and Belgium, during the occupation of post-war Europe. Mr. Bush was a graduate of Towanda High School and Rider College, Trenton, NY. He was a talented and avid musician, as well as a man of many interests. He loved traveling and spending time at his vacation home in Arizona. An active participant in many musical organizations, he was in the choir, orchestra and band at Towanda High School and the Sylvania German Band and Men’s Chorus. He served as the bugler for Towanda American Legion Post 42, and played taps for many military funerals. He was also involved in many civic organizations including the National Association of Accountants, the Sylvania Men’s Club, the MG Car Club of America, Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191, the Towanda Gun Club, the Sylvania Employees Association and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. He was a past treasurer of the Bradford County Republican Party, a Standing Stone Township auditor and a Wysox Fire Company auditor. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Eloise; a son, Jeffrey C. Bush and his wife, Lisa of Yardley; a stepdaughter, Sharon Jones Murray of Standing Stone; a son-in-law, John Murray of Muncy; a stepdaughter-in-law, Suzanne “Sue” Jones of Towanda; his special grandchildren, Sarah and Bryan Bush of Yardley, Eric Jones of Towanda, Tanya Hartman and her husband, Ed of Sheshequin, Jodie Moyer of North Carolina, Kevin Murray and his wife, Pam of Muncy and Darin Murray and his wife, Rebecca of Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, NC; great-grandchildren, Eric Anthony, Mitchell and Dayton Jones, Steele Hartman, Kevin, Thomas and Joe Murray and Helen Grace Murray; his mother-in-law, Helen R. Born June 5, 1926 in Tunkhannock, she was a daughter of the late Wilmot A. Rosengrant and Clio Storey Rosengrant. She was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and Wyoming Seminary. On June 13, 1947, she married Karl A. Belles, in Tunkhannock. Jean and Karl owned and operated their five-and-dime store in Laceyville, for five years. They later moved to Towanda in 1964. Jean was formerly employed by the J.J. Newberry Store in Towanda, Claverack Rural Electric in Wysox and the First National Bank of Bradford County in Towanda. She was later employed by the Citizens & Northern Bank in Towanda for many years, until her retirement in 1985. Jean was a member of the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 Auxiliary. Dahms Mr. Robert A. Dahms, age 55, of RR 1 Box 1696, Laceyville, PA, formerly of Ringoes, NJ, passed away early Saturday morning, May 29, 2004 at his home in South Auburn, PA. Mullane, 4 Stonebridge Circle, Wichita, KS 67230, formerly of Wyalusing, PA and originally from Center Moriches, NY, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, after a long battle with lung cancer. Robert Heath, Jr. Robert Heath Jr., age 75, of New Albany, PA, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Bob was born in Dushore on Dec. 15, 1928, son of the late Robert, Sr. and Mary Ellen Hunsinger Heath. He attended Cherry Township High School and married the former Louise B. Montanye of Elmira, NY on Jan 12, 1952. Louise predeceased him on Feb. 7, 1993. Bob served with the U.S. Army in Korea and after the war, worked at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. of Mildred, and was also engaged in logging. He later went to work for GTE Sylvania in Towanda, from which he retired after more than 25 years of service. Bob loved farming, which he did during all of his working and retired years. He raised horses and cows and enjoyed going to the different stockyard sales. He also enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Laddsburg Community Church. Marek, Jr. Peter J. “Pete” Marek, Jr., 57, was called to the Lord on April 29th, 2004, in Kharkov, Ukraine, where he worked as a Christian missionary. Pete was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Towanda, son of the late Peter and Rose Marek. He is survived by a brother, Patrick Marek, of Seattle WA. Pete grew up in T Pete left the Air Force as a captain in 1980, in order to pursue graduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He earned an MBA degree there and discovered a love for teaching. He was self-employed as a tutor and part-time college instructor until 1998. He was also very active in Cornerstone Community Church of Mountlake Terrace, WA. Starting in 1993, Pete answered a calling to help new Christian churches in Russia and Ukraine, particularly to set up Bible school programs. He was born in Jessup on Nov. 19, 1910, a son of the late Max and Olga Maciejowsky Rayanic. He was married to the former Mildred Doshna, who predeceased him. Mr. Rayanic was a dairy farmer and had previously worked for Allied Bendix Co. in South Montrose. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a former member of St. Andrews Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and loved working in his garden. Survivors include a son, Steve Rayanic, Meshoppen, and a grandson. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary, Pauline and Anna and five brothers, John, Nicholas, Marshall, Stephen and Walter. Helen Stethers Helen Machuga Stethers, age 83, of 459 Hickory Grove Road, Horseheads, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth H. Stethers, formerly of the Wyalusing/Camptown area, on Sept. 1, 1999. Visitation was held at the Walter J. Joseph Wenner Joseph Lee Wenner, age 85, of Lopez, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. Joe was born Nov. 4, 1918 in Nuangola, son of the late Lee Arthur and Barbara Fleig Wenner. He graduated from the Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, a member of the Class of 1934. He began working for Booth’s Garage in Eagles Mere and married the former Helen Frances Klem of Lopez on Sept. 27, 1941. They resided in Lopez, and until he entered WWII. He served in the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant in the European Theatre in the battle of the Rhineland. After returning home, Joe worked a brief time for Frank Calaman’s garage in Mildred. He then opened his own business, Wenner’s Garage in Mildred. Joe also owned and operated a school bus for the Sullivan County School District, retiring from his businesses in 1971. He later served as a Colley Township Supervisor for many years. Joe was a member of Trinity Chapel, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Mildred. He was a member of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred and a member of Evergreen Lodge #163 F&AM, Monroeton and former member of the Williamsport Consistory. Surviving are his spouse, Helen, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, George L. and Ruth Ann Wenner, Ridley Park; a daughter and son-in-law, Lee A. and Kenneth Bond, Jim Thorpe; five grandchildren: Karen Freeman, John J. Dieffenbach, 71, of Astor, FL, formerly of East Towanda, PA, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2004 at the Florida Hospital Waterman, Tavares, FL. Born April 2, 1933 in Dushore, he was a son of the late Richard S. Dieffenbach and Helen Munley Dieffenbach. Jimmie was a graduate of Cherry Township High School, Class of 1951 and subsequently served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Jimmie was a resident of East Towanda before moving to Astor, FL to make his home. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Salt Springs, FL, Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge of Lynne, FL, Bradford County Outboard Motor Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Astor. Smith, age 82, of RR3, Box 3090, Laceyville, PA (Edinger Hill), passed away at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock on Thursday evening, May 6, 2004. Born in Breslau in Luzerne County on July 13, 1921, Morris was a farmer and farm machinery equipment mechanic, working for 20 years for Allie Miles Poultry Farm on Spring Hill; five years for Marian Bennett Dairy Farm in Silvara and the last 43 years for John Parys Farm and Equipment Sales in Laceyville. He was a member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church in Laceyville and he was also a long-standing member of the NRA. In the winter months, he very much enjoyed deer hunting. Morris is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Doris A. Shoemaker; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Barbara) Champluvier of Laceyville and Ms. Dolores Sharer of Wyalusing; three grandsons; one granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Richard is a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II, and afterwards attended agricultural school. On Sept. 12, 1953, Richard married his wife, the former Elsie Wright. It was a loving and devoted marriage of over 50 years. The Liddicks moved to Stevensville in 1978. Prior to his retirement, he was a foreman for Deer Park Lumber. Richard enjoyed working in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and especially time spent with his family. Croft, 76, of Rienze, RR2, Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 11, 2004 at the home where he was born, following an extended illness. Louis was born on June 28, 1927, a son of Louis Croft, Sr. and Isabel (Johnson) Croft. On Jan. 10, 1954, he married the former Lillian L. Vanderpool. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in January 2004. Louis was a dairy farmer for most of his life, which he enjoyed doing very much until failing health would no longer allow him to continue. He retired from farming in 1982. Following his retirement from farming, Louis was employed by the Northeast Bradford High School and Senior Citizens Building in Bradford County as a maintenance technician until his final retirement in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian, who provided wonderful care for him, especially for the past four years; his son, Ronald Croft of Wyalusing; his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Brad Delamater of Wyalusing; four grandchildren. He was born on June 27, 1930 in Wyalusing, a son of the late John Daniel and Isabelle Carlin Bradshaw. Gerald is a graduate of Wyalusing High School and was a member of the FFA while at Wyalusing. Kirchmeier, 84, of RR3, Meshoppen, PA died Friday, April 30, 2004 at his home. Born Sept. 8, 1919 in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Carl E. and Julia Geiger Kirchmeier. Mr. Kirchmeier married Anna Dolan on Sept. 26, 1953, who survives. Prior to serving in the US Army during WWII, he worked for the Railroad in New Jersey. After moving to Pennsylvania, he worked for the former Bendix Corp. in South Montrose for many years. Additionally, during the 1970s, he owned and operated the Haven of Rest Campground, now known as End of Day Campground. In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Alma Welch, of Binghamton, NY; a brother, Eugene Kirchmeier, of New Milford and numerous nieces and nephews. Derwood Davis Derwood Davis, age 70, Tunkhannock, PA, passed away on Monday evening, May 3, 2004 at the Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock, after an illness. Born in Forty Fort on Dec. 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Harold C. and late Rita VanHorn Davis. He was employed by Davis Construction Company in Tunkhannock and formerly sold building supplies. A graduate of the Laceyville High School, Class of 1943, he was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church and formerly the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church. A WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps, he was a member of the American Legion Post #510, Black Walnut. Other memberships included the Laceyville Lodge Free and Accepted Masons. A very talented artist, he was known for his oil paintings. Survivors include his two daughters, Rev. Leon Wizelman Leon “Spike” Wizelman, 86, was called to be with the Lord on Friday morning, April 23, 2004 at his home in Lake Wesauking. Born June 17, 1917 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Bertha and Benjamin Wizelman. Mr. Wizelman was a graduate of Overbrook High School, Philadelphia, Class of 1935. Upon graduating from high school, Spike attended the Rising Sun Aviation School where he obtained an aircraft and engineer’s license. His first job was an aircraft mechanic at the Baderville Airport in Atlantic City. During World War II, Spike served in the Civilian Air Corps giving flight lessons to our troops. While working as the manager at the Gettysburg Airport, he met his first wife and married the former Bette Outwater on July 14, 1945. Spike and Bette moved to the Towanda area in 1950 and upon receiving the Pontiac-Cadillac automobile franchise from General Motors in that same year, entered into business with Bette’s father and mother, John and Eleanor Outwater. Bette passed away on May 3, 1988. Besides being a master craftsman with wood, Spike was notoriously noted for his storytelling skills and sense of humor. He could entertain people for hours with his cleverly worded anecdotes, whether real or fiction. Through the name “Spike” was given to him as a younger man for his “hard as nails” personality, in his later years, Spike was noted for his gentle and soft outlook on life, as well as his humorous ease with people. Spike married the former Clara McNeal on Sept. 24, 1995 and they resided in the “round” house on the north side of Lake Wesauking. Besides his wife, Clara, other survivors include a daughter, Leslie H. Wizelman of Lake Wesauking; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lorraine Wizelman of Asylum Township and Todd and Belle Wizelman of Homets Ferry; a granddaughter and her husband, Star and Mark Gubbiotti of Noxen; stepchildren, Dottie and Ernie Yates, Donna and Irvin Smith, Connie and James VanHorn, Richard and Lois McNeal, Randy and Terry McNeal, Patti and Tim Coyle, Terri and Richard LaBarre and Greg Simons, as well as numerous step-grandsons and step-granddaughters. The family received friends on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. The funeral service was held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Wysox Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Griffth officiating. Interment followed in the Wysox Cemetery. Chris Higley Chris Dean Higley, age 41, of New Albany, PA, died on Thursday evening, April 22, 2004 in Overton, PA. He was born on May 29, 1962 in Troy, a son of Dawin M. and Phyllis Caseman Higley. Chris is a 1980 graduate of Sullivan County High School. He has been employed at Taylor Packing, Inc. for over 20 years. In 1989, Chris moved to New Albany from Dushore. He is a member of the Shunk United Methodist Church. Chris enjoyed camping, being in the outdoors, hiking and motorcycles. He is survived by his parents, Dawin and Phyllis Higley of Shunk; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Arthur Baggott of Deltona, FL, Dora and Warren Brown of Montoursville; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Glenn Higley of Ocala, FL, David and Donna Higley of Wyalusing, Clayton Higley of Shunk; special friends, Dale and Daisy Bacorn, Barto, WVA; 16 nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles. Edward Casselbury Edward Casselbury, age 68, of New Albany RR1, PA, passed away on April 22, 2004 at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. He was born on March 31, 1936 in East Herrick Township, a son of the late Edward, Sr. and Lydia Woodruff Casselbury. On Feb. 2, 1960, Edward married the former Delina Dodge. It was a devoted marriage of 44 years. He is a lifetime resident of Bradford County and prior to retirement, due to declining health, was engaged in dairy farming. Ed worked on the following local farms: Eastabrook Farm, Allis Hollow; Belcher Farm, LeRaysville; Terascavage Farm, Homets Ferry; Lou Alderson Farm, LeRaysville, and last at Thall Farm, New Albany. Ed enjoyed time spent with his family, hunting, fishing and always enjoyed playing cards. He had a special fondness for his special dog, Mikey and his cat, Chris. It was of great enjoyment and pleasure to him to have an annual Easter Egg Hunt. He and his wife, Delina would spend weeks in preparation and planning of this fun family event. He thoroughly enjoyed hiding the eggs and having gifts for everyone. His nieces, nephews and their families will fondly remember the enjoyment that this annual event brought to each of them. Ed also enjoyed attending and helping sell tickets for the annual Fourth of July celebration and auction held in Herrickville. Oliver, age 74, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2004 in Leesburg, FL. She was born on May 6, 1929 in Wyalusing, a daughter of the late Robert Freeman and Gertrude Arey Kunkle. Reta was a 1947 graduate of Wyalusing High School and in 1949, graduated from the Philadelphia Arts and Sciences Institute. On June 11, 1950, Reta married Floyd P. (Hutt) Oliver, Jr. in the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. It was a loving and devoted marriage of 53 years. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was employed as a laboratory technician at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, giving over 40 years of service. She is a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church and was also a member of Meshoppen Chapter No. 70, Order of the Eastern Star and the Wyalusing American Legion Auxiliary Unit #534. Reta loved her time spent in Florida. She enjoyed reading, swimming, camping and especially loved time spent with her family. She leaves surviving her husband, Floyd P. (Hutt) Oliver, Jr., at home; her three children and their spouses, Robert, Sr. and Irene Oliver of Wyalusing, Linda and Dennis Brown of Wyalusing and Curtis and Tina Oliver of Troy; her grandchildren, Robert, Jr. (Melinda Miller) Oliver, Jason (Audrey) Oliver, Adam (Angie Felter) Oliver, Jenny (Jeremy) Umstead, D.J. Brown and Sophie Oliver; three great-grandchildren, Fontana Oliver, Janie Oliver and Haley Brown and several nieces and nephews. Eva was born in Forest City, on May 18, 1914, daughter of Grover and Bertha Chamberlain Lenox. She graduated from the Camptown High School a member of the Class of 1932. She was a member of the PA State Grange, as well as the Camptown United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Carole Powell, Windham Center; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae and Charles Bateman, Mexico, NY, Marie and Leonard Souto, East Smithfield; twelve grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Chuck was born Jan. 6, 1915 in Dunmore, son of the late John and Mary Evanyo Juba. He attended local schools and worked in the CC Camps. He was stationed at Camp 95 in Laporte and there, met and married the former Mary Angelo of Mildred on May 3, 1941 at St. Francis Church, Mildred. He was a self-employed truck driver; he worked for the Bliss Brothers and Fred Locy of Mildred for many years. He worked as a welder and retired in 1981 from Rheem Textile (now Hoffman-New Yorker) of Dushore. Surviving are his spouse, Mary, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Ronald Golder, Vancouver, WA; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Alice Juba, Toms River, NJ; sister, Mrs. Mary Jason, Reeders; two grandsons, Brian and Justin Golder and several nieces and nephews. Roger Loomis Mr. Roger Robert Loomis, age 69, of RR3, Box 289, Meshoppen, PA (White Creek Road), passed away early Tuesday morning, April 20, 2004 at the Mid Valley Hospital, Hospice Unit in Peckville. Born in Binghamton, NY on Jan. 24, 1935, he was the son of the late Ralph and Carlyn Raushmer Loomis. Mr. Loomis was a dairy and beef farmer on the Thundering Hooves Farm on White Creek Rd., Meshoppen, a farm in which he and his family owned and operated, for many years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Reba J. Jayne; a son and his wife, Robert and Georgette Loomis, Meshoppen; a daughter, Panda Loomis of Elk Lake; two grandsons, Tim Loomis of Paulboro, NJ and Carl Loomis of Factoryville; two granddaughters, Brandy Buckingham and Brittany Loomis, both of Meshoppen and four great-grandchildren. Born Oct. 30, 1933 in East Rush, he was the son of the late Paul and Eva Grow McLaud. Mr. McLaud’s wife, Ruth (Ely) McLaud of 46 years, survives him. Dick was a member of the East Rush United Methodist Church. He was employed by Endicott Johnson for 19 years and for the Elk Lake School District for 12 years. Setzer, age 73, of Dushore, PA, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 13, 2004, surrounded by his family, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. He was born in Mildred on Aug. 2, 1930, to the late Albert and Rose Bishop Setzer. He graduated in the Class of 1948, from the Turnpike High School. In his younger years, Mike dabbled in local boxing. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. For 16 years, he was employed by the Dolly Madison Creamery of Dushore and later retired from Masonite Corporation of Towanda, after 27 years of service. In 1958, he started Setzer’s Garbage Disposal; along with his wife, they ran the business for 22 years. On Dec. 31, 1966, Mike married Sylvia Matson at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Dushore. Mike was an active member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Dushore. He loved telling stories and taking his grandchildren fishing. He always looked forward to his next fishing adventure with his fishing buddies, Jack, Jerry and Bill. Ethel Webber Mrs. Ethel Mae Webber, age 97, of RR1, Box 1548, Laceyville, PA, passed away on Easter Sunday evening, April 11, 2004, at the Carpenter Care Center in Tunkhannock. She was born in Keiserville on Sept. 5,1906, the daughter of the late Luther Kidder and Eliza Ellen Dadey Harvey. Mrs. Webber was the wife of the late James Arthur Webber, Sr., who passed away on Nov. 20, 1984. Mrs. Webber was employed by Bendix Corporation in South Montrose for over 17 years, retiring in 1967. Throughout her married life, she was a housewife and homemaker for her husband and their family. Mrs. Webber was a long-time member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, where she served as the communion steward for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, also serving on many committees and was a past vice-president of the group. She also served as a release time teacher during the 1960s and 70s. Surviving are her two sons and their wives, James A., Jr. and Gaylene Webber of Montrose, Howard and Gloria Webber of Williamsport; three daughters and their husbands, Beatrice and Burton Ayers, Sr. of Williamsport, Alberta and Paul Griffing of South Montrose and Hazel and George Wilmarth, Sr. of Laceyville; a brother-in-law, Cecil Penrith of Florida; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three grandsons, John Robert Ayers, Howard Webber, Jr. and Daniel Webber and two sisters, Irene Davis and Emily Penrith. John Wiltsie John Clifford (Bible John) Wiltsie, Jr., age 66, of Eagles Mere, PA, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004 at the Loving Care Nursing Home in Selinsgrove, PA. John was born May 10, 1937 in Winthrop, MA, son of the late John C. Wiltsie, Sr. and Julia Sophie Paczcia Wiltsie. He graduated from the Eddystone High School, Eddystone, a member of the Class of 1956. He apprenticed and became a master union electrician, and worked out of Local 654, Aston, in various locations in Delaware County. He retired to Eagles Mere in 1994. John was a member of the Eagles Mere and Laporte Fire Companies, and a former member of the Upland Athletic Club, Upland Fire Company, Delaware County Field & Stream Gun Club and the Jungle Cock Club, PA & Del. Chapters. He also was a member of the Polish American Club of Eddystone and the Delaware County Bowhunter’s Club, where he wired and lighted their trails, and the Eight Point Bowhunter’s Club of Eagles Mere. Lois was employed by the Bradford County Manor for 12 years, until her retirement in 1986. She loved her family, the outdoors, horses and gardening. Charles J. Palmer, Sr. Charles J. Palmer, Sr., 92, of RR4, Wyalusing (Standing Stone Township), PA, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Skilled Nursing Unit, Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born April 9, 1912 in Sugar Notch, he was the son of the late Stanislas Plominski and Josephine Brozdowski Plominski. In early years, Charles grew up in Sugar Notch and Warrior Run and attended Hanover High School in Hanover. He then moved to New York City during the Depression to help support his family. Charles owned and operated a large laundry service in New York City and later moved to Stamford, CT for five years, where he owned and operated a restaurant until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in England and Scotland and was in England during the V1 bombings. After four years of military service, he was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant and moved back to Stamford, where he met the love of his life, Helen. They were married and moved to Westport, CT and opened the Evergreen Restaurant at Railroad Place, which he operated for over 20 years. During this time, Charles met many celebrities and other famous individuals, such as Eleanor Roosevelt. He retired to the Bradford County area in 1981. Charles was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Wyalusing. He was a life member of Beirne-Webster VFW Post No. 1568, Towanda; a member of the VFW in Westport, CT and was a long-time supporter of the Westport Little League. Charles loved the New York Yankees. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Norman Nickeson of Sugar Run; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles J., Jr. and Robin Palmer of Wyalusing RR4 and John P. and Julie Palmer of Wysox; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Priam of Spotswood, NJ; a brother, Walter Plominski and his wife, Margaret of Swoyersville; his sisters-in-law, Catherine, Marjorie and Millie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Palmer; a daughter, Patricia Palmer; a grandson, Stephen James Booker; a sister, Essie and brothers, Max, Ed, Zigmund and Stanley. The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Wyalusing. Interment followed in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, North Towanda, with Towanda American Legion Post 42 according full military honors. Donald Barker Donald Mervin Barker, age 75, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Don was born in Panora, IA, Aug. 27, 1928, son of the late Mervin and Mabel Bailey Barker. He graduated from the Panora High School, a member of the Class of 1946, and also attended the University of Maryland. His entire career was spent with Western Union, working in England, Maryland, Washington, DC and retiring in New York City in 1984 as a Senior Director. He and Vi retired to Sullivan County in 1993. Surviving are his spouse, the former Violet Ann Jagusiak, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Barker, Lynchburg, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and George Bellias, Morris Plains, NJ, Amy Standera, Frenchtown, NJ; brothers and sisters-in-law, Delbert C. and Mary Barker, Blue Springs, MO, Michael and Terry Barker, Omaha, NE; stepchildren and spouses, Martin Faulborn, Gladstone, NJ, Christopher Faulborn, Hillsboro, NJ, James and Peggy Faulborn, Belvedere, NJ, Karen Boos, Brooksville, FL; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, E. Millstone, NJ on Tuesday, April 13, with Msgr. Raymond Cole presiding. Interment was in the Cedarhill Cemetery in E. Millstone. Marion Bryant Smith Marion B. Smith died April 8, 2004 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA, following a brief illness. For the past nine years, she resided at Renaissance, 1105 Plaza Drive, State College. Born July 13, 1909 in North Jackson, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Mary Bryant. On June 4, 1937 in Glenburn, she married Richard Lyman Smith of Springville. They were married over 53 years and lived in Springville for the duration. Her husband preceded her in death on March 6, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Dr. Jay and Carlton Bryant. After receiving her teaching certificate at Penn State in 1930, she moved to Springville to teach elementary school. From that time until 1969, she taught second grade, first in Springville, then at Elk Lake, with a hiatus to raise her children. She was a dedicated, caring and very skillful teacher, as well as a devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montrose, and the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and James L. Karg of Springville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard B. and V. Carol Smith of State College and Springville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Ann Marie Karg of Springville, Christine Karg-Palreiro of Ashburn, VA, Rhonda Karg of Durham, NC, James D. Karg of Acworth, GA, Mary (Karg) May of Marietta, GA, Jennifer (Smith) Rauch of State College and Marion M. Smith of State College. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. William Lutz, Sr. Mr. William D. Lutz, Sr., age 76, of RR2, Box 269, Mehoopany, PA (Lovelton), passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 8, 2004 at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock after a long illness. He was born in South Auburn, Susquehanna County, on July 13, 1927, the son of the late George, Sr. and Florence Bunnell Lutz. Mr. Lutz was a graduate of the Meshoppen High School, Class of 1945, after which he attended and later graduated from the University of Tennessee. After college, he served in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater, mostly in Japan and the Philippines. After college he owned and operated Lutz’s Garage in Wyalusing for many years, during the 1950s and 1960s. William was later employed by Daniels Construction, where he worked at Procter and Gamble Paper Products in Mehoopany and was also employed by Daniels in Vermont, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Hollenback United Methodist Church, the Wyalusing VFW and the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Donna B. Brown; two sons and their wives, William, Jr. and Kathy Lutz of Wyalusing and Randy and Linda Lutz of New Albany; a daughter and her husband, Denise and Tim Delamarter of South Auburn; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlos (Toad) and Phyllis Lutz of Goffstown, NH, George (Bud) and Betty Lutz of Nineveh, NY, Victor and Carol Lutz of Cincinnatus, NY and Paul and Roberta Lutz of Camptown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Robert Long of Geneva, NY and Lottie Crosby of Belleville, MI; four grandchildren, Zechariah and Mariah Lutz of Wyalusing and Marshall McCarty and Kahlan Delamater of South Auburn; a special niece, Becky Lutz Smith of Wyalusing, and several other nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held on Monday, April 12 at 11 a.m. from the South Auburn United Methodist Church with Rev. Beverly Murphy of the church officiating. Russell Snyder Russell Sheldon (Skip) Hill Snyder, age 72, of Mineola, TX, formerly of the Sullivan County, PA area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, TX, with his family at his side. Skip was born March 20, 1932, a son of Nedra Kline Snyder and the late Stewart Lloyd Hill. He attended the Sonestown High School, a member of the Class of 1950. Skip served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married the former Dorothy Louise Culver of Laceyville, PA on March 4, 1954 in Towson, MD. Skip worked for Fitzpatrick & Lambert in Dushore and then was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company of Lackawanna, NY for 28 years and was a member of REBCO. After retiring, he became vice-president of Schoenle Construction in Carrollton, TX. He later became vice-president of Keepsake Pictures, Dallas, TX and moved to Mineola. Skip was a member of the Laceyville American Legion Post #510 at Black Walnut and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose for 40 years. He was a past president of the New York State Snowmobile Coordinating Group and was vice-president and member of the board of directors of the Enchanted Lakes Property Association. Skip loved to hunt and fish and travel with his best friend and spouse, Lou. He also loved to work on computers and constructed several of his own PCs. Surviving are his spouse of 50 years, Lou; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay Russell and Jennifer Snyder of Alexandria, VA and Richard Wayne and Karen Snyder of Merritt Island, FL; mother, Nedra K. Snyder of Laporte: granddaughters, Katelyn Michelle Snyder and Kelly Nicole Snyder: three brothers and sisters-in-law: Stansbury and Nancy Hill of Elysburg, PA, Orlen and Vera Hill of Parlin, NJ and William Snyder of Silver Creek, NY; sisters and brother-in-law: Geraldine and Charles Hart of Shamokin and Rebecca Snyder of Indiana; cousins, Marjorie and Jay McCall of Surprise, AZ, Coletta Katz of New York, NY and Eugene and Ann Kline of Watsontown and several nieces and nephews. Peter Pisaneschi, III Peter Anthony Pisaneschi, III, 39, of Honesdale, PA, died suddenly on Friday, April 2, 2004, at home. His wife is the former Kathleen Ann Rudolf. He was born in Montrose on Feb. 25, 1965, son of Peter, Jr. and Betty Pisaneschi of Lawton. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Kyleen, age nine, and Timothy, age four; brothers and sisters, Sharon Nance of Roanoke, TX, Monica Pifcho, of Lawton, Renee Hovland, of Apopka, FL and Chad Pisaneschi of Bronx, N.Y. He attended Elk Lake High School in Dimock. He worked as a carpenter, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Calling hours were Tuesday, April 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale. Cremation will follow. Lucille Muller Lucille Ann Muller, age 70, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Lucille was born in Towanda, daughter of the late Gordon L. and Florence Emory Gavitt. She graduated from Towanda High School, a member of the Class of 1952. She also attended the Elmira Business College and worked as a clerk for the New Albany Tool Company. Lucille married Paul J. Muller of Dushore on August 11, 1956. Lucille was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and was accomplished at embroidery and crewel, and also traveled extensively across the United States with Paul. She was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Women’s’ Guild. Surviving are her spouse, Paul, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin G. and Stephanie Muller, Park City, UT; a daughter, Elizabeth Shaffer, Columbia Cross Roads; a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and William Bohensky, Jr., Dushore; grandchildren and spouses, Jeremey Shaffer and spouse, Rachelle, Melissa Shaffer O’Connell and spouse, Ken and August Rain Muller; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Mark H. Muller, on Sept. 28, 1981. A graveside service will be held from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, on Thursday, April 8, at 9 a.m., with the Rev. David R. Margaret Barna Margaret Barna, age 88, of Staten Island, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the Vanderbilt Nursing Home, Staten Island, NY. She was born Oct. 29, 1915 in New York, NY, a daughter of the late Peter Zito. Her husband, Joseph Barna predeceased her on March 7, 1995. She worked most of her career as a seamstress. Margaret and Joe lived in Albany Township for several years. Surviving are a son, Peter Barna of Matawan, NJ and a daughter, Catherine Barna of Laceyville; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Zito of Linden Falls, NJ. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, April 5 at St. Basil’s Cemetery, Dushore, with the Rev. David R. Betts, pastor, presiding. Graveside services were under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.
