Charles McGroarty
Feb. 20, 2003

His family moved to Overton, where he was raised and was a graduate of St. Basil’s Catholic School, Class of 1945.

On Feb. 8, 1953, Charles married the former Marjorie Keeney. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

During his lifetime, he was employed as a mechanic and a truck driver.

With his descendants from Ireland, Charles always had the luck of the Irish with him. With his strong faith in our Lord and his Irish luck, he was able to conquer many battles he faced throughout his own life.

A man with a positive outlook for life, he always found good in everyone and never turned anyone down when they needed help or words of encouragement.

His love and interest for automobiles always kept him busy, whether it was repairing a car or tractor for his friends or rebuilding his own first car, a 1917 Model T.

He found much enjoyment having his sons interested in his same passion for cars.

He also enjoyed being with his family. A man with a kind heart, full of love, a gentle smile and a kind word, made him a man that everyone loved to be with.

He taught his family about the important things that mattered in life. It wasn’t material things that were important, it was honesty, faith and the love we should have for family and friends, and of course, a little "Irish luck."

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Overton and a member of the Antique Automotive Club of America.

Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie Keeney McGroarty, at home; his children and spouses, Michael and Peggy McGroarty, Maureen Maynard, Matthew and Tina McGroarty, Edward and Shellie McGroarty; grandchildren, Josh and Karen McGroarty, Beau McGroarty, Lacey and Kira McGroarty, Dalton and Dylan Maynard and by two great-grandchildren, Mason and Haley Jo McGroarty.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church in Overton, with the Rev. Kenneth Seegar, as celebrant.

Interment followed in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
