Hal Crisman
March 23, 2003
Halford Kelton Crisman, 81, of South Montrose, PA, died on Sunday, March 23, 2003 at his home. Born Nov. 9, 1921 in Fairdale, he was the son of the late Byron Earl and Louise (Risley) Crisman. His wife, Margaret J. (Dillon) Crisman predeceased him in 1994.

Halford became a familiar face of South Montrose, where he resided the rest of his life. He helped his father to continue the dairy farming business. His luck turned very good when he met and married Margaret Dillon on Nov. 30, 1950, his partner of 43 years.

In 1972, Halford pursued a new beginning away from farming and through his persistence and sticking to an idea, the Ridge Road Archery store was born and he became well-known in Susquehanna County as a supplier of sporting goods and clothing. Anyone from the dog owner to the foxhunter knew "Hal" as the man with the supplies.

Our father taught us the values that good fathers should. We not only learned how to milk a cow, but to appreciate the true value of the cow and its gift of milk . . . to enjoy life to the last drop and to respect all . . . respect is yours to give and to earn . . . simple and true.

We quote his friend, Bill Robinson, "He was a legend in and about this area." The legend is still here.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Debora Ann Crisman, South Montrose, Mary Louise and Charlie Ruiz, Tucson, AZ; his son, Hal (Rip) Crisman, South Montrose; grandchildren, Michele Crisman (Jay), Luke Crisman, Dillon Crisman, all of Meshoppen, Eric Crisman Ruiz, Sonia Maria Crisman Ruiz, both of Tucson, AZ. Truly missed by his son, daughters and friends. His reach went out to two people that were not his family, but were treated as his own, Linda Arnold, Dallas, TX and Neely Arnold, Austin, TX, daughters just the same. He was predeceased by his first grandson, Daniel Hal Crisman during the Sept. 11, disaster.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church St., Montrose. The family received friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

If desired, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Daniel Crisman Memorial Park, c/o Community Bank and Trust Company, 61 Church St., Montrose, PA 18801.
