Jason Bennett
The very largely attended funeral for Jason Allen Bennett of Sugar Run, PA was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, Wyalusing, PA, with the Rev. Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, presiding. Interment was in the Rushville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Ken Arey, Jr., Stephen Valoroso, Scott Davis, Ed Mapes, Tom Marlin and Scott Salsman.
An honor guard from the local Harley Motorcycle group provided an escort from the funeral home to the cemetery.

- Jason Allen Bennett, age 27, of Sugar Run, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2003.
Jason was born in Towanda on February 4, 1976, son of Richard Allen and Charlene Long Bennett. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the Class of 1995. He attended the Northern Tier Technical School in Towanda, where he specialized in Auto Body Repair.
 Jason was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed deer hunting. He was also an active member of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club. The club sponsors Poker Benefit rides to raise funds for local charities and Jason participated in many rides in the Bradford County area.
Surviving are his parents, Richard and Charlene Bennett, Sugar Run; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Kim Bennett, Angier, NC and Tom and Dawn Bennett, Lisle, NY; grandparents: Clifton and Pauline (Peggy) Bennett, Camptown; several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews, Bryan Bennett, Colton Bennett, Ashlyn Bennett, Levi Bennett and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing. Interment was in the Rushville Cemetery.
Friends called on Tuesday, June 3 at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
The family will provide the flowers and direct memorials to the Jason A. Bennett Memorial Fund, c/o Peoples State Bank, PO Box 217, Wyalusing, PA 18853. There will also be a Harley Poker Benefit Ride held in his memory at a later date.
Dale Carter

- Mr. Eugene Dale "Rip" Carter, 61, of Lakeland, FL, passed away of heart failure on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at his residence.
Born April 1, 1942 in Meshoppen, he was the son of Ruth Jones Carter of Meshoppen and the late Elston Carter.
He moved to Lakeland from Laceyville in 1986 and was the owner of a Subway Shop in Grove Park Shopping Plaza.
He belonged to the Victory Assembly Church, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting and he was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Carter, Meshoppen; a son, Matthew James Carter, Lakeland, FL; two brothers, Lewis Carter, Sebring, FL, Harold Carter, Alachua, FL; two sisters, Esther Yoder, Gainesville, FL, Sharon Carter, Meshoppen; three grandchildren; and his ex-spouse, Sally Carter of Lakeland, FL. He was predeceased by a grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at the Victory Assembly Church, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland, FL.
Friends called at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Helen Dennis

- Mrs. Helen Rokus Dennis, age 80, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Schuyler Memorial Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.
Helen was born in Mildred, PA on July 22, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Blanche Skula Rokus. She attended local schools and married Frank Dennis of Lopez on June 27, 1947. They resided in Elmira, where Frank worked for Ward-La France Company. Frank predeceased her on July 19, 1992.
Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elmira, NY.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Karl Kakretz, Elmira, NY; brother, Dr. William Rokus, Leesburg, VA; sisters-in-law, Edith (Edie) Rokus, Leesburg, VA, Ann Kotch, Elmira, NY, Dorothy Kocher, Bangor, Helen Dennis, Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by brothers: Joseph Rokus, who was killed at Guadalcanal in WWII; Edward Rokus of Mildred and Peter Rokus of Montoursville.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Lopez.
Friends may call on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Arthur H. Donato, Sr.

- Arthur H. Donato, Sr., of Forest Lake, PA died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born April 19, 1940 in Tompkins Cove, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy [Dickett] Donato. His wife, Dolores F. [Elwood] Donato died in March 2001.
He owned and operated A & D Excavating for more than 30 years. Additionally, he was a former Township Supervisor for Forest Lake Township, and was a former member of the Forest Lake Volunteer Fire Company.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dan Johnson, of Indianapolis, IN, Ellen Grant and Henry Grant of Forest Lake; sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur H., Jr. and Jan Donato, of Forest Lake, Don and Judy Donato of Little Meadows; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Edith "Nan" June of Forest Lake; special friend, Marlene Buza and her daughters, Lori (Chuck) Lane, Michele (Mike) Osterhout, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Donato, of The Villages, FL; nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Frank and William and a sister, Eileen Rose predeceased him.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church Street, Montrose. The family received friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

A celebration of the life of Peter W. Layman, age 98, very deeply respected educator of Sayre, Montrose and Wyalusing, PA will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing. There will be calling hours on Friday, June 6th, from 70 to 9 p.m., and also on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Following the service there will be a luncheon at the funeral home for family and friends. The family will provide all of the flowers, and donations can be made to the Kathryn and Peter Layman Scholarship Fund, c/o Peoples State Bank, PO Box 217, Wyalusing, PA 18853-0217.
Bernetta Newman

- Mrs. Bernetta Alberta Newman, age 81, of the Wyalusing Personal Care Home in Wyalusing, formerly of Laceyville, PA, passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2003.
She was born in Laceyville on July 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Hayes A. and Amanda Kelley Salsman. Mrs. Newman was the wife of the late Malcolm Newman, who passed away on May 24, 1973.
Mrs. Newman was employed as a seamstress at various dress factories in Laceyville, Wyalusing, Meshoppen and Pittston.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing bingo and constructing picture puzzles. She also enjoyed many hours spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Daniel G. and Deanna Newman, Chesapeake City, MD and her daughters and their spouses, Delores and Lyle Jones of Harding and Ms. Donna Newman of Greenville, MI; nine grandchildren, Katharine Newman of Los Angeles, CA, Grant Newman of Connecticut; Vickie Vanderpool of Laceyville, Jimmie Reese of South Carolina, Kenny Vaow, Greenville, MI, Shelly Scerrick, Greenville, MI, Sandie Hecht, Phoenix, AZ, Debbie Dornin of Pittsburgh and Tammy Jones of Louisville, KY; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, H. Augustus Salsman, Howard Salsman, Theodore Salsman, Carlton Salsman and Fred Salsman and eight sisters, Irene Salsman, Lillian Ham, Hazel May, Anna Keeney, Jeanette Brotzman, Lila Salsman, Betty Smith and Pearl Foux.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with Rev. Richard Camp of Laceyville, officiating. Interment was in the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Edward Wodzinski

- Edward A. Wodzinski, age 86, formerly of Houstontown, Mt. Cobb and Wyalusing, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2003 at the Towanda Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in Vandling, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Kuklevich Wodzinski. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Curtis in 1982.
Ed attended schools in Throop and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army with the Third Division, 7th Army and 601 Ordinance Outfit. He received several medals including the Bronze Battle Star, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and many more.
He was a member of American Legion Post #534 in Wyalusing; VFW Post #6072, Asylum and a life member of the DAV Post #11, Mid Valley, Dickson City.
An employee of PENNDOT, he was an equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Errington; three daughters, Eileen Bullock, Wellsville, PA, Esther Wodzinski Brewster, NY and Paulette Potter, Wyalusing; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and John Wodzinski; six sisters, Irene Telesha, Regina Cotton, Mary Topa, Florence Nemirovich, Ceil Goerig and Helene Pabis.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, with Father Walter L. Ferrett, Assistant Pastor of the Sacred Heart Church of Scranton and Rev. Mary Jane Hitt, Pastor of the Providence Presbyterian Church, Green Ridge, Scranton, officiating. Entombment was in the Glenwood Mausoleum, Morgan Highway, Scranton. Military rites were held at the funeral home and at the mausoleum.
Friends called at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the local Disabled American Veterans.
Betty Wolf

- Betty Wolf, age 59, of Wyalusing RR1, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at her home.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1943, in Meshoppen, a daughter of LeRoy Francis and Hazel Emmons Shoemaker.
Betty had been a resident of Wyalusing for 23 years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by local garment industries, and later for the Wyalusing Hotel in housekeeping, giving 14 years of service.
She enjoyed time spent doing crossword puzzles, was a Nascar fan and enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers.
Surviving are her mother, Hazel Shoemaker; three children and their spouses, Hope and Kevin Johnson of Wyalusing, Dawn and Derek Bouse of Laceyville, Raymond Wolf of Cresco; sisters and brothers, Glen and Lorraine Shoemaker, Ronald and Lori Shoemaker, William and Rose Mary Shoemaker, Donald Shoemaker, Carl Shoemaker; five grandchildren, Dale, Michael, Nina, Devin and Kailin and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing.
Friends and family may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wyalusing Ambulance Association, in Betty’s memory.
Charlotte Vosefski

- Charlotte (Champluvier) Vosefski, of Apalachin, NY, went to be with her Lord after a brief illness, Saturday, May 17, 2003. She was predeceased by her parents, Tracey and Vera Champluvier.
She was a retired General Electric Corporation employee, retiring after 25 years of service. She was an avid shopper and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 30 years, Richard M. Vosefski, Apalachin, NY; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Ray Rodriguez, Newark Valley, NY, Donna and Kenneth Angulas, Apalachin, NY and Deborah and Richard Holden, Owego, NY; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Michele and James Georgoudes, Endwell, NY, Beverly and Kenneth Berman, Westchester, IL; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard McDonough, Punta Gorda, FL; one brother and sister-in-law, Tracey and Mabel Champluvier, Towanda; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott with the Rev. Marilyn Barnard officiating. Interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Janet Thompson

- Janet M. Thompson, RR2, Meshoppen, PA, died on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She was born in Meshoppen on Sept. 8, 1935, daughter of Verna Clapper McMicken Davis of South Auburn and the late Charles H. McMicken.
She was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, Class of 1953, and on Saturday evening, she had attended her 50th year class reunion.
Janet was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Meshoppen and a member of South Auburn Grange #1188. For many years she served as correspondent for the South Auburn news in the Rocket-Courier newspaper in Wyalusing.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles L. Thompson; sons, Aaron Thompson of Omaha, NE, Gregory Thompson of Kolo, Germany; a daughter, Kelly Minuski of Bear Creek; brothers, Mickey McMicken of Laceyville and Neale McMicken of Tunkhannock and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, with Father Joseph J. Manarchuck, Pastor of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Meshoppen. Interment will be in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Meshoppen.

Louis Musolino

- Louis C. Musolino, age 71, of Forks Township, Sullivan County, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at his home after suffering a heart attack.
Lou was born in McAdoo, PA on April 25, 1932, son of the late Vincenzo and Josephine Greco Musolino. He graduated from the Freeland High School, a member of the Class of 1951and attended The Freeland Business School.
He was a master mold-maker for the Franklin Mint in Philadelphia. He taught mold-making in several of the Mint’s manufacturing plants throughout the world. He did significant training in Malaysia and also in England. He married the former Ilene P. Herron on June 16, 1991 and they retired to Sullivan County. During retirement, Lou worked for several years as a custodian for the Sullivan County School District.
He was an avid hunter and archer and belonged to several archery clubs in New Jersey.
Surviving are his spouse, Ilene, at home, a stepson and his spouse, Hal and Jennifer Oliver, McBee, SC; stepdaughters and their spouses, Melanie and Isaac Langley, Rockingham, NC and Monica and Chris Chukes, Hartsville, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law: Vincent and Jamie Musolino, Wildwood, FL and Pat and Maunia Musolino, Somerville, NJ; five granddaughters: Lauren and Makayla Bacon Brittany, Kristen and Cassidy Chukes

Emma McCarty

- Emma (Boyles) McCarty, age 84, of RR1, Forksville, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Skilled Nursing Unit at Memorial Hospital in Towanda after a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1919 in Hillsgrove, a daughter of the late Leon E. and Hazel (Tuttle) Boyles.
On Aug. 11, 1934, Emma married her husband, Theos R. McCarty in Warrensville. It has been a loving marriage of 68 years.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Sulcraft Company in Dushore. In earlier years, she was employed by Sylvania and Carey McFall before Sulcraft, also a garment business. She had also been a waitress at local establishments and was a cook at DarWay Nursing Home. She and her husband also boarded hunters.
Emma spent most of her life raising her two sons and helping others. She also enjoyed her time spent crocheting, baking and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Theos R. McCarty; a son, Richard L. McCarty and his wife, Kathy of Forksville; a daughter-in-law, Dot McCarty of Pensacola, FL; three grandchildren, Craig McCarty, Michelle Frey and Carla Ard; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Rodney and Harold Boyles of Williamsport, Gene Boyles of Bloomsburg and Fred Boyles of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Wilma Jones of Williamsport and Lois Smith of Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 12 noon at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore, with the Rev. Robert W. Martin, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Elkland Township.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday morning, June 3 at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Margaret Hoffmann

- Margaret R. Hoffmann, RR1, Wyalusing, PA, died on Friday evening, May 23, 2003 at the Wyalusing Personal Care Home in Wyalusing. She was born in Vineland, NJ on Nov. 3, 1913.
She received her Registered Nurse Diploma from Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. For many years she worked as an RN in Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, NJ. She attended the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Theodore and brother, John Gabordi; sisters, Marie Denelsbeck, Alice Ferrari, Katherine Pallante and a stepbrother, Alfred Dennelsbeck, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Theodore, Jr. and Nancy Hoffmann of Wyalusing; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. from the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Pierce, pastor of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church. Friends called on Tuesday evening at Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Freda Franklin

- Freda B. (Fenton) Franklin, age 84, of Wyalusing RR2, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
She was born on March 20, 1919 in Sugar Run, a daughter of the late Lewis and Anna Baker Fenton.
In July of 1944, she married Carl H. Franklin in Wilmot. Her husband preceded her in death on July 10, 1972.
Mrs. Franklin has lived her entire lifetime in the Wyalusing area.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Wyalusing Area School District as a custodian, giving 22 years of service. She had been employed by Rynveld’s Manufacturing for 13 years prior to that.
She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Freda enjoyed crocheting, flowers and loved time spent with children.
She leaves surviving her seven children and their spouses, Eugene and Sharon Franklin of Laceyville, Barbara and Robert Hoover of Wyalusing, Francis and Leona Franklin of Towanda, Bonnie and Chuck Keeney of New Albany, Stanley Franklin and Terri Gates of Laceyville, Betty Franklin and Ray Yonkin of Dushore, Paula and Walt Vanderpool of Monroeton; a brother, Lewis Franklin of Pine City, NY; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Richard L. Robinson and Francis N. Franklin, Jr.
A graveside funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. in the Wyalusing Cemetery.

Sharon Bien

- Sharon Mary Bien, 38, Brooklyn, NY, crossed over to eternal life on Monday, May 19, 2003, due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. She was born on June 13, 1964 to Peter and Kathleen (Burns) Bien in Passaic, NJ.
Sharon graduated in 1982 from Bridgewater-Raritan West High School. She then received her bachelor’s degree at Queens College. Sharon was an elementary teacher, sixth grade, at PS 225 in Far Rockaway, NY. She was admired by all who knew her, as a talented musician, artist and photographer. She also enjoyed writing, producing and directing plays annually for her students at school. Sharon was a teacher and a friend. In appreciation of all of Sharon’s dedication, in 2002, she was nominated for the Disney America Teacher’s Award. She was also a member of the Brooklyn Working Artist Coalition.
Sharon will be sadly missed by all the lives she touched daily.
Survivors include her parents, Peter and Kathleen Bien; her sister, Paula Bien of Laceyville; a brother, Peter Bien, Jr. of Bridgewater, NJ; aunts and uncles, Mary Johnson of Bridgewater, NJ, Peggie Bouse, Wyalusing, Joanne and Ignacy Dabek of Wyalusing, James and Anne Bouse, Belvidere, NJ; and nine cousins.
Funeral services began with visitation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, followed by an 11 a.m. service at Bongiovi Funeral Home, corner of Bell Avenue and Anderson Street, Raritan. Burial was private. Family and friends called from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 23 at the funeral home.

Helen Waltman Hall, 81, died in Las Vegas, Nevada May 13, 2003 of an unexpected heart attack. With her at the time of her death in Mountain View Hospital, were her husband, Roger Hall; her sons, Bill and Kurt Schwem; and her sister, Frances Clark. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
Helen, daughter of Orrie G. and Anna Waltman, was born in Wyalusing, PA April 15, 1922. She attended elementary school in Elkland and graduated from high school in Knoxville, PA in 1940. She worked for several years in Philadelphia before she married Navy officer William Schwem, whose career took them to many parts of the United States and the world before they settled in Las Vegas upon his retirement in 1968.
After Bill’s death Helen married musician Roger Hall. For the past eighteen years, she and Roger have been active as owners of a video production company, as frequent and extensive travelers and as competitive ballroom dancers. She lived her 81 years to the fullest and will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.

Gale Kneller
Gale R. Kneller, age 60, of Vienna, IL and a former resident of Pennsylvania, passed away recently.
Born on Dec. 4, 1942 in Sugar Run, he was the son of Andrew M. Kneller and Ethel (Cornell) Kneller Parzyk.
Survivors include a sister, Lois Shoemaker, Vienna, IL; nephews, Tommy and Brook Shoemaker and Tim Shoemaker; a niece, Melissa Shoemaker and a great-niece, Jalyn.
In addition to his parents, Gale was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon Kneller; a great-niece, Dakota Shoemaker and a brother-in-law, James Clifton Shoemaker.
Gale had worked as a farm laborer. He enjoyed reading and was an avid movie buff. He was of the Baptist faith.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date in the Quicks Bend Cemetery, Quicks Bend, PA.

- Helen M. Brown, age 89, a resident of Bradford County Manor, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1913 in Rummerfield Township, a daughter of the late George Henry and Daisy Casselbury Kithcart.
On Oct. 23, 1930, she married Carlton Neil Brown, Sr. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1975. Helen and Carlton would have celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a nurse’s aide.
Mrs. Brown has been a resident of the Rome area since 1975.
She leaves surviving her five children, Daniel B. Brown of S. Cortwright, NY, Carlton N. Brown, Jr., Ulster, Helen M. and Sam Trowbridge, Wyalusing, Daisy R. Spina, Dushore, William F. Brown of Wysox; brothers, Jim Kithcart, Alabama, Howard Kithcart, Towanda, Kenneth Kithcart, Somerset, Harry Kithcart of Wysox and a sister, Mary Woodruff of Laceyville; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Roy, Alfred and Daniel Kithcart; a sister, Dorothy Crawn; a grandson, Jimmy L. Nipper, Jr. and a great-grandson, Dalton James Blair.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 19 at 11 a.m. in the Windham Community Church with Pastor Bill Kohler officiating.
Friends and family called on Monday, May 19 at the Windham Center Community Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Interment followed in the Camptown Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, monetary donations be made to help defray expenses.
Dale Tewksbury

- Dale Rodney Tewksbury, age 58, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003 after a long and courageous fight against cancer. He died at home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Born Aug. 26, 1944 in Sayre, he was a son of the late Eldred and Elsie (Love) Tewksbury of South Auburn. He graduated from the Elk Lake High School in 1962 and subsequently began his long career as a dairy farmer. He remained in farming until he retired in November of 2001. Dale also worked as a carpenter and painter.
He served for a number of years as a volunteer firefighter with the Good Will Fire Company in Laceyville. He also served on the ambulance crew and in the position as fire chief. Dale worked as the leader of the South Auburn 4-H Club and was a member of the South Auburn Grange. He was elected as superintendent in Auburn Township. He was formerly a member of the United Methodist Churches in South Auburn and Skinners Eddy. Dale taught Sunday School for several years at Skinners Eddy United Methodist. He was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. Dale was a member of the Progressive Agriculture Organization. He enjoyed playing softball and watching Penn State football, Yankee baseball and cheering on the New York Giants. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Jayne Tewksbury; five children and their spouses, LTC Dennis and Jenice Tewksbury, Fayetteville, NC, Anthony and Telysa Tewksbury, Silvara, Kevin and Lesley Tewksbury of East Rush, Jennifer Tewksbury-Brown and David Brown of Laceyville and Christopher and Melissa Tewksbury of Camptown; two stepchildren, Randy Knolles of Wyalusing, Heidi and Harry Mader, Jr. of Wyalusing.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Addie Tewksbury, Amanda Tewksbury, Kristin Tewksbury, Anthony Tewksbury, Tonette Jennings, Susanne Tewksbury, Seth Tewksbury, Travis Tewksbury, Madison Tewksbury, Tyler Brown, David Brown, Dustin Brown, Stephan Tewksbury, Mackenzie Tewksbury, Samantha Knolles, Miranda Mader and Brittany Mader. In addition, he had one great-grandson, Camden Drew Pearson.
He is also survived by his three brothers and five sisters and their spouses, Frank and Audrilla Tewksbury, Winter Haven, FL, Louise and Don DeWolfe, South Auburn, Bea Gardner, South Auburn, Arden Tewksbury, South Auburn, Martha and James Proof of Montrose, Loretta and Leo Guiton of Irish Hill, John and Charlene Tewksbury of South Auburn and Dianne and Rick Lewis of Mehoopany.
Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Tewksbury and Elden Tewksbury.
The family received friends on Tuesday, May 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Russell and Rev. Kathy Pierce, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church of Laceyville, PA 18623.
Largely attended funeral services were held for Dale R. Tewksbury, age 58, of Wyalusing, on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kathryn B. Pierce and Rev. Russell C. Pierce, pastors, officiating.
Special music was provided by Bonnie Jayne as organist and Brian Bennett as soloist.
Interment followed in the Lacey St. Cemetery, Laceyville.
Serving as pallbearers were Burnie Sheldon, James Iddings, Jay Chadwick, James Chadwick, Richard Eberlin, Wayne Felter, Wes Skillings, Brian Bennett and Jerry LaFrance as honorary bearer.

Ethel Robinson

- Ethel Marie Chilson Robinson, age 77, wife of Floyd K. Robinson of South Hill, Wyalusing RR3, Orwell Township, PA, passed away on Monday afternoon, May 12, 2003 peacefully at her home surrounded by family.
Born June 28, 1925 at East Herrick, she was the youngest daughter of the late Walter and Christine Graham Chilson. She was a graduate of LeRaysville High School, Class of 1945. On Oct. 22, 1945, Ethel married her loving husband, Floyd K. Robinson and they have celebrated 57 anniversaries together. She loved her family greatly and was known community-wide for her baking and cooking. Ethel decorated wedding and birthday cakes for several years and was always asked to furnish pies to local fire company celebrations. She seldom liked to go out and eat because she didn’t think they could cook or prepare food the way she liked it. She loved doing things for family and friends, square dancing, garage sale shopping and playing cards.
She was a member of the Herrickville United Methodist Church, the UMW sewing club and also was in charge of memorials at the church.
Surviving are her husband, Floyd; four sons, Clifford F. and wife, Linda, Walter C. and fiancee, Sandy, Elton D. and wife, Patti, Milton G. and wife, Cindy, all residing on South Hill; a daughter, Loretta S. and husband, Jim Stevens of Macedonia; seven grandsons, Sean, David, Matt, Jake and Jeremy Robinson and Lancer Stevens, who will serve as pallbearers at the funeral and also, Tim Matoushek from Lebanon; four granddaughters, Christie Arey, Tina and Shannon Robinson and Lynette Stevens; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Ali, Kenny, Aubrey and twins, Avery and Emery; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fenton and Lois Robinson of Rochester, NY; a sister-in-law, Janet Chilson of Apalachin, NY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the Robinson, Chilson and Green families.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Christine Chilson and Clarence and Olive Robinson; her sister, Mildred; her brother, George; her sister, Dorothy and her husband, Everett Green and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Curtis and Bette Robinson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Helen Learn, pastor of the Herrickville United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Jane Pykus officiating.
Interment will follow in the South Hill Cemetery in Orwell Township.

Charles Oswald

Charles Raymond Oswald, age 87, of Sugar Run, PA, passed away, surrounded by his loving family at home on Friday, May 9, 2003. He was born in Elkins Park on Jan. 19, 1916, son of the late Charles and Christine (Wolcott) Oswald.
Raymond enjoyed camping, hunting, was an avid builder and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. He was a veteran of the Navy.
Survivors include his children: Edwin (Diane) Oswald of Burlington, Donald (Glenda) Oswald of Pineville, MO, Jean (Ralph) Bailets of Sugar Run; brothers, Robert Oswald of Warrington, Ken Oswald of Lancaster, Richard Oswald of Jim Thorpe; sisters, Melva Deaves of Philadelphia, Dorothy Brown of New Jersey; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary (Woodrow) Oswald; a son, Raymond; sisters, Betty Foran and Ruth Woodrow; brothers, Edwin, Claire, Al, Nelson and Howard Oswald.
Friends called at the Vickery Funeral Home, Inc., 110 W. Main St., Troy, on Wednesday, May 14 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. The funeral was held at the funeral home at 12 noon immediately following visitation, with the Rev. Charles Bishop officiating. Interment was in the Mountain Lake Cemetery.

- Mary Jane Kravitz, of Dushore, PA passed away on May 8, 2003. Her parents were the late Edwin L. and Julia Klem Cole of Lopez.
Jane was born in Muncy on Aug. 31, 1933. She graduated from the Turnpike High School, a member of the class of 1951, where she represented the school as the Laurel Queen. She married Daniel Kravitz in St. Vladimir’s Church on May 18, 1952. Last year, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
After her marriage, she began traveling throughout the country as Dan pursued his ca reer in professional baseball. They moved 32 times until they retired from baseball and Jane became a beautician. She operated a shop out of her home in Dushore for 38 years. She was a wonderful, generous, beautiful woman who always put others ahead of herself. Her cooking and genuine hospitality were known to all.
Jane was a member of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church in Lopez, PA.
She loved her family greatly and they loved her in return. In addition to her husband, Danny, at home, she had three children, Pamela Kravitz Arthur, Muncy Valley, Daniel Cole Kravitz, Dushore and Lisa Miller, Wilkes-Barre. She had two sons-in-law, Ron Arthur and Scott Miller and four grandsons: Tanner Arthur; Nicholas, Tyler and Darren Kravitz; brother and spouse, Edwin and Sandra Cole live in Dushore, and sister and spouse, Kathryn and Robert Hippenstiel, reside in Montoursville and her four nieces, Annette Cole Gill, Sandee Cole Stojanovic, Alexis and Alison Hippenstiel were also a very important part of her life. She was also survived by two daughters-in-law, Karen Merschbach and Amanda Martin and by three special grandchildren, Cameron, Calla and Cassie Martin.
A light went off in her life when her beloved son, Danny, died on Nov. 20, 2002. They are together now.
Burial services were held on Monday, May 12 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church, Lopez, with Hieromonk Michael Thier, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Lopez.
Friends called on Sunday, May 11 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, from 2 to 9 p.m. There was a Parastas at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert (Hank) Brink, Jr., age 85, a resident of Bradford County Manor, Burlington, PA, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1917 in Potterville, a son of the late Robert L. Brink and Cloie Cole Brink.
He had been a lifetime resident of Bradford County.
He was a great sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent making woodcrafts. He loved baseball and played on the Toytown Baseball Team.
He is survived by his sisters, Thelma Fonsetto of New Milford, NJ, Betty (Gerald) Libonati of Towanda, Phyllis Brink of Towanda, Jo Ann Brink of Towanda; several nieces and nephews; by a personal friend, Alberta Cowan and personal friends, Jack and Betty Lou Bennett.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Manley and Donald and a sister, Millie Libonati.*
A memorial service will be held on May 17 in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, at 11 a.m.
Clayton Maryott

- Clayton M. Maryott, 83, highly-regarded Towanda Funeral Director and resident of 502 Third St., Towanda, PA, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2003 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Born March 8, 1920 in Monroeton, he was a son of the late Clayton H. and Frances Marsh Maryott. Clayton was a graduate of Towanda High School, Class of 1938 and was subsequently associated with the Bradford County Assistance Office in Towanda and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in Harrisburg until his entry into the U.S. Army in 1942.
During World War II, Clayton served in the European Theatre as a T/Sgt. with the 325th Field Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division. Following his honorable discharge on Jan. 28, 1946, Clayt entered the Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, graduating from there on March 4, 1947. He served his two year apprenticeship with his father’s funeral home in Towanda and became a licensed Pennsylvania Funeral Director in 1949. In that same year, Clayt became a partner with his father in the operation of the Maryott Funeral Home.
Following the death of his father in March of 1952, Clayt continued the operation of the funeral home. On April 19, 1952, he married the former Jane White, who assisted him in the operation of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home until January of 1981 when he became associated with James A. Bowen o form the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home. Clayt was the fourth generation Funeral Director of the Maryott Family to enter the funeral profession, following his father, Clayton H. Maryott, his grandfather, Clifford B. Maryott and his maternal great-grandfather, Joseph Marsh.
Clayt was active in many community, civic and fraternal organizations. His main interest in life was in his family and home.

Christ Episcopal Church in Towanda; past president of the Tri-County Funeral Directors Association; Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association; National Funeral Directors Association; past commander of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42; Beirne-Webster VFW Post No. 1568, Towanda; past president of the World War II, Last Man’s Club; past president of the Towanda Rotary Club and was recipient of the Paul Harris Rotary Fellowship Award; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2191, Towanda; Liberty Corners Grange; Towanda Gun Club; Towanda Country Club; past president of the Quarry Glen Club; Union Masonic Lodge No. 108 F&AM, Towanda; Union Royal Arch Chapter No. 161; Northern Commandery No. 16 Knights Templar; Wysox IOOF Lodge No. 1152; life member of the Franklin Steam Engine Company of Towanda No. 1 and past chairman of the Bradford County Board of Assistance.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jane White Maryott, at home; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ronald C. Hunt of Towanda RR3; his granddaughter, Stacy C. Hunt of Towanda RR3; a sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Albert Ingerick of Wysox; a sister-in-law, Evelyn M. Maryott of Towanda RR1; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen Maryott, Marie Williams and Dorothy McCleary and by his brother, William J. Maryott.
The family received friends on Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191 held a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A private funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sunday, with the Rev. Allen Hulslander, officiating. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, with Towanda American Legion Post #42 according military honors.

Brian Graham

Brian N. Graham, 27, of Birchardville, PA, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Rush. Born Aug. 13, 1975, he was the son of David N. Graham of Birchardville and Kathy Mundt of High Point, NC. He worked in the construction and stone business, last being employed by Don Hohn of Brackney.
He also enjoyed outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, survivors include sons, David N. Graham of Endicott, NY, Isaiah J. Graham of Birchardville; maternal grandparents, Jack and Mary Kelly of Apalachin, NY; paternal grandparents, Rev. Bernard and Glendora Graham of Birchardville; a brother and fiancée, Brendan Graham and Mary of Apalachin; a sister, Molly Graham of High Point, NC; half-brother, Jacob Mundt of High Point, NC; aunts, uncles and cousin.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 3 at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church Street, Montrose, PA. The family received friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of services.
R. Wright Giffin

R. Wright Giffin, 87, of RR1, LeRaysville, PA, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Born March 5, 1916 in Wyalusing, he was the son of the late Ray W. and Mabel B. [Van Gilder] Giffin. On June 5, 1939 he was married to Eula Haire, who survives him.
A graduate of Camptown High School, he was a contractor and the owner of the Giffin Construction Company. He was an elder and member of Rushville Presbyterian Church.
Additionally, he was a Director of LeRaysville Branch of County National Bank, Director of Camp Lackawanna, member of the LeRaysville Lodge #471 F&AM, LeRaysville, and was a member of the former Wyalusing School Board.
He enjoyed being a pilot and flying and wintering in Florida.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick C. and Bonnie Giffin of RR1, LeRaysville; granddaughter, Susan A. Giffin of Aachen, Germany; grandson, Steven T. Giffin, a student a Lehigh University, and cousins, Irene Sherwood of Tunkhannock and Fred Jones of New Jersey. A son, Thomas Giffin and sister, Ruth Durkin predeceased him
