Camptown Races Set for Sept. 11

The ladies will be singing their song on Saturday, Sept. 11 when the 38th running of the Camptown Races begins at 10:30 a.m.

The 10-kilometer cross country competition is one of the longest-running foot races in the area and annually attracts over 150 runners.

The challenging course winds along the beautiful Wyalusing Creek valley between Camptown and Merryall before circling back toward town through the mountains.

Competition will be held in six age groups for both male and female competitors, as well as three high school age team divisions.

Last year, Tim Nowakowski was the overall winner of the race in a time of 40:06.8.

The current course record is held by Ed Osbourne, who set the mark of 34:14 in 1988.

Registration on race day begins at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 10 a.m.

A pre-race briefing for competitors will be held at 10:15 a.m.

Registration on race day is $6.

Competitors who pre-register on or before Aug. 30 will pay just $5. To pre-register, runners can contact Karl or Gina Peterson at 570-746-1236.

Teams must register on or before Aug. 30.

Trophies will be presented to the top male and female finishers and the top three teams in each category. Medals will be awarded to the first three runners in all other classes. Other medals will be awarded based on the number of runners in each category.

The race is only part of the festivities that are hosted by the Camptown Men’s Club and the Camptown Civic Club.

At 1 p.m., games and a kids’ fun run will be held for preschoolers through sixth graders.
